Teen Summer Garden Camp - Carlisle, PA
Cumberland County, PA – New this summer, a horticulture program designed just for teens! Join the Master Gardeners of Cumberland County for their first-ever Teen Summer Garden Camp on two Mondays, June 20 and June 27, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Held at the Penn State Extension Office in Carlisle and the Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SEAREC) in Manheim, PA, this fun-filled camp offers teens ages 13-15, or in grades 7-9, the ability to explore and discover the “behind-the-scenes” of a garden. The first camp session on June 20 offers teens the opportunity to delve deeper into horticulture topics and engage in hands-on learning about the scientific method, photosynthesis, chromatography, soils, microscope skills, and plant identification. Teens will also build their very own gourd birdhouse. Come prepared for plenty of exploration, observations, activities and discussions! For the second camp session on June 27, teens will travel to the Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SEAREC) in Manheim, PA. Campers will take a wagon tour across the research farm, explore thousands of annual and perennial flowers, visit the Idea Gardens, and create a colorful bandana using vegetable dyes. STRIDE is a fun after-school running and character-building program for boys in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Throughout the program, the focus is on doing ones personal best, not competing with each other. STRIDE meets twice a week for a total of 10 weeks. The practices are held after school and last for 75 minutes. Each session includes a lesson/discussion, a game/activity, and a running workout with trained coaches.
