Checkmate Champions is the future of chess teaching. This chess camp combines the Classical strategies of chess with new innovative modern technology that creates a very FUN-damental experience for all kids regardless of their chess playing abilities. Checkmate Champions is more than a chess camp, it?s a chess experience. While in the class, students will learn not only how to play chess but they will learn the rules, history, and also how to record their games so that they can reflect on them at a later date. Students will have the chance to play their favorite chess variation games such as Bughouse (team chess), Allies, Bobby Fischer chess and IPad chess to name a few. After all the fun and games, the kids will have the opportunity to participate in a real life class chess tournament. They will play against different opponents and get practice using an actual tournament clock. On April 19th @ 6PM we will be hosting a "fun"draiser at the Stray Cat Lounge in Clinton Township. $10 cover charge gets you a buffet style pasta dinner. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a Silent Auction. All monies raised will go to Kids Burn Camp at YMCA Camp Manitoulin. It takes $500 to send one kid to camp but the return on investment is priceless.

August Evening Camp - Dogwood Hill Elementary School
For children ages U6-U7, our camps will introduce and develop your childs love of soccer through a sequence of dribbling, shooting, balance, running, jumping, and movement educations drills along with a variety of fun-filled games. Your child will learn how to follow direction and improve their social skills by connecting with their peers and instructors. For children ages U8-U10, our camps will reinforce proper technique and develops players athletic abilities through a sequence of lifting & juggling, eye-foot coordination, running with the ball, passing, receiving, moves while dribbling, and heading & crossing drills. Your child will learn how to dominate the ball by having the correct body mechanics. Player development is achieved with game-like activities and is enjoyed by all players. TRI-It! This camp is designed for beginner triathletes that have competitive swimming or running experience. Find out why triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports in America and learn about NCAA scholarships for female athletes! USA Triathlon certified coaches (including Dr. Karen Edwards, Director of Afterschool and Summer at Laurel) will teach basic skills for completing your first triathlon. Learn open water skill techniques, bike handling skills (including braking, riding in a group, and safety skills) and running to maximize speed and minimize impact.
