LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Percussion Camp - MPLS - MacPhail Center for Music - Mpls
Build your skills on all percussion instruments in this intensive and fun five-day camp. Each day you will play exciting music in small percussion ensembles with other students of similar ability and skill level on a variety of instruments. Students will have the opportunity to select clinics that focus on specific instruments such as drum set, snare drum, timpani and mallet keyboard instruments. During the week students will also learn practical skills such as making their own mallets and tuning their own snare drum. All student ensembles will perform for family and friends on the last day of camp. Students must have one year of band of a year of private instruction in preparation for this camp. Students outside of the age range but who have had comparable experience may contact the camp coordinator, Bob Adney, at 612-767-5410, for placement. Campers will make frescoes; design, build and test parachutes; attempt to walk on water and recreate many more of DaVincis clever contraptions. Come play yoga! During this simultaneously fun and calming week girls will learn about yoga, mindfulness training, and their selves. Each day we will move through yoga poses, sequences, and fun yoga games and crafts. Through yoga and mindfulness training students will begin to better understand themselves and the needs of those around them. We will work towards a positive self image and increased confidence through yoga and fun activities which allow one to care for the body. Each day will offer something new and fun such as manicures, henna tattoos, mandala coloring, and even mala making. The girls will keep their mala and be equipped with tools to continue their meditation work on their own. If you are looking for a fun week of crafts, games, learning, and relaxation this is the perfect camp for you! Rachel Wright is a passionate educator who seeks to help her students grow their understanding and compassion for the world, life, and humanity through the magnificent practice of theatre and yoga.
