The Founders and Evolution of Summer Resorts & Kids Camps - Readfield,
Four years ago Charles L. Day and Dale Potter-Clark began the process of gathering information for "Founders and Evolution of Summer Resorts..." right here at a Maranacook Community Education class. Fifty or more enthusiastic people gathered that evening to share stories and to learn about the resorts, hotels and kids’ camps that have existed in this immediate area. After years of conducting personal interviews, making site visits and doing exhaustive research Charles and Dale have published a 356 page book packed with 220+ vintage photos and information about more than forty establishments that have existed on the four lakes. Thrown in for good measure is “The Larches” on “Lake Myra” in Readfield. Included is the history of the railroad, steamboats and the trolley in this area as well as the various establishments, founders and directors. Dale will first talk about the process and some discoveries made while researching and writing the book and following this she will do a reading. She will be available to sell and sign books after the presentation. Potter-Clark will be offering three classes the spring of 2017 (Mar, Apr, May) at $12.50 each or $30 for all three. Proceeds will help fund a "Museum in the Streets" in Readfield.

MOUNTAIN BIKING 101 $250 Grades 6+ June 13-17 8:30AM-2:00PM Did you know that within a half mile of the Greensboro Day School campus is access to over 35 miles of the best municipal mountain bike trails in North Carolina!?! Looking to build on a successful first year at the 2015 GDS summer camp , we are back for even more fun for 2016 with two sessions available! [MTB 101 June 13-17 and MTB 201 July 25-29] For a full week, your child will get the opportunity to safely explore our amazing local Greensboro mountain bike trails while also learning basic mountain bike repair and maintenance. Instruction will be provided from highly experienced local bike shop mechanics combined with skills instruction and guided rides from certified International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) guides. The all skills camp covers all aspects of the game of volleyball with an emphasis on fundamentals. The techniques and skills taught in this camp are designed to provide a strong foundation that allows players to develop into high level athletes as they continue to play. All skills will be covered including passing, setting, hitting, defense, blocking, serving as well as offensive and defensive systems. Every registration requires full payment. A $50 fee will be retained on all cancellations for any reason to cover credit card fees and administrative expenses. The remaining amount will be credited back to ones account if paid by credit card. If paid by check, the University will cut a check back to the original payee. For prompt processing, refund requests should be made prior to the start of camp. A pro-rated fee system will be in effect for those campers only attending partial days of camp.
