Positive Life Change
Although they mentioned "life changing" on their mission statement I though that was just advertising. It turns out this truly was a life changing summer for our daughter. She was also a sweet girl a little on the shy side. But this summer she seemed to blossom. She came home confident and eager to participate in activities at our church. Kid's in the Kitchen Camp - Mays Landing, NJ
Our fourth week of cooking camp is for our 8-13 year old age group. In this 5 day fun filled camp, kids will visit the very places where food come's from and that's not the frozen food isle of the grocery store. Each day, we will explore the very places where beautiful, delicious, healthy food comes from. Then, it's back to the kitchen where we will create yummy dishes with the products that we learned about. Kids will have totally hands on experience both in and outside the kitchen. They will learn about nutrition, sustainability, responsible food sourcing along with basic cooking techniques, safe food handling, basic knife skills, recipe reading and so much more. Classes will be Monday thru Thursday from 8am-2pm with a fun cooking competition on Friday where the kids will cook for the parent's and compete for titles like most creative, dish, best knife skills, best use of cooking techniques and more. Price-$250/student Each student will receive Hands on experience learning age appropriate techniques for preparing and cooking all types of food. Youth Leadership Summit 2.0
Held in Ashland, Nebraska at Carol Joy Holling Camp and Retreat Center, this event will gather youth from across the ELCA for intentional leadership development and faith formation. Our guests include Presiding Bishop Eaton, Kevin Strickland, Assistant to the Presiding Bishop/Executive for Worship, Stephen Bouman, Executive Director for Congregational and Synodical Missions of the ELCA, and several other wonderful speakers and teachers. Our featured presenter is Lyle Griner who will be coaching us on Peer Ministry. Each synod will select two youth to participate and send one adult to accompany them on the journey. Registration will be covered by a special grant. Your only responsibilities will be travel and being open to what God has in store for you through this event. Registration closes on October 1, 2015.

Fairy Tales Through a Microscope - The Evergreen School
Fairy tales do not require fairies… interesting! In this class, students will be examining fairy tales. Where did the term fairy tales come from? When did fairy tales begin? Some fairy tales explored this week include The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, and The Frog Prince. The original versions will read and discussed. We will take a look at todays childrens literature and how fairy tales have changed through the years… often in funny ways. We will explore different versions of tales from different cultures. Our Junior Golf Camps are four-day, instructional programs designed to introduce Juniors to the game of golf, have fun and meet other Junior Golfers. CAMP Leadership Training Camp is back for its third season in Summer 2016! We are thrilled to be continuing this program as a two-week session jam-packed with outdoor adventures, group challenges, nature hikes and leadership discussions. This exciting camp is a combination of all the usual Hitchcock camp games and songs and leadership skills that will apply to being a Junior Counselor at Hitchcock and just in life! We hope to incorporate our favorite activities from last year, such as rock climbing, the ropes course challenge and our camping overnight, and go on new trips too. Well get a chance to both work with the younger campers to put what we learn into practice and to be campers ourselves playing in the woods and exploring nature.
