Dietary restrictions and allergies are very common. Summer programs are prepared to accommodate everything from nut and dairy allergies to vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan diets. Some groups even have peanut-free areas. Experienced chef s follow federal food requirements to ensure have balanced meals. Food safety is incredibly important. Thus, cross-contamination will not happen thanks to the skilled kitchen staff.

If there are any dietary restrictions or allergies, it is important for parents to note this on the health form. In particular, if a child is at risk for anaphylaxis, it is important to highlight this and send information about treatment (i.e. sending along an epinephrine auto-injector, most commonly called an EpiPen) and filling out important doctor and emergency contact information. Additionally, parents should take the time to talk to the Camp Director, chef and nurse. It is helpful when parents offer some dietary suggestions so that the camp can incorporate a child’s favorite meals.
