Join Virginia Outside for an introduction to kayaking and kayak fishing. Our staff will instruct you on safety, paddling, and general maneuvering of a sit-on-top kayak. As you learn throughout the week at various locations, we will incorporate fishing, sightseeing and touring while paddling on all types of water. From local lakes and rivers like Bull Run, Fountainhead, and tidal creeks of the Potomac. We will progress to days on lazy rivers that include the Shenandoah, Rappahannock, and Rapidan Rivers. A kayak is a great way to get close to nature and we expect to see bald eagles, ospreys, herons, deer and beaver. When we are fishing our catch will include large and smallmouth bass, catfish, sunfish, crappie, and maybe even the infamous snakehead. Kayaks, paddles, life vests, and fishing gear are provided by Virginia Outside. 804-272-6362

Loving Care "Kids for Kids" Campaign 5K &1 Mile Fun Run - Ottawa, OH
Come join the fun! It's a great way to be part of teaching children the importance of helping others while getting some exercise! This year’s event will be focused on helping others. Barrett Lammers, a preschool student here at Loving Care, was born with polycystic kidney disease. He had been doing well managing with this until a few months ago when an abnormal growth was found between his liver and pancreas called a choledochal cyst. This required him to have an extensive surgery and rehabilitation this spring. His prognosis is positive, however, he will need to have continued close monitoring throughout his entire life. We are planning a 5K Run, 1 Mile Fun Run and Diaper Dash with all proceeds from this event being donated to Barrett’s family to assist with medical expenses.

Learn about our beautiful planet and all of the wonderful green energy that we can use to help keep our homes and our lives healthy and balanced. We will explore a new energy theme each day, make crafts, and do experiments based on the themes. We will also explore ways that we can make our everyday lives more peaceful and happy with different sensory games involving art and music and exercises like yoga and Tibetan meditation. This will be a week focused on making the world a better place to live while also improving the quality of our inner wellbeing. The ocean is home to many gnarly wave, current, and wind animal surfers. Learn how pelicans use an A-Frame beach break, investigate sea lion and penguin cutbacks, use the methods of an epic cormorant duck dive, explore how jellyfish try to avoid getting caught inside, and how dolphins hang rostrum down the line. Get a taste of stand up paddle boarding and surfing that includes turtle rolls in order to reach far out levels that will set you on track to make your own rooster tail in the future.
