What I loved about Ocoee was that my child had lots of things to do. She wanted to try archery, riding horses and she was excited about the art part of the camp. She spent a lot of time with good friends that she’s known through Camp Ocoee and they played a lot of volleyball and basketball, but she said they also tried the BMX and water sports portions of the camp. The Avengers Mentoring Organization (501c3) presents it's 3rd Annual Charity Fireworks Fundraiser for our 5th Annual Summer Camp! Our FREE summer camp serves 300 children ages 6-13 in and around the Metro-Detroit area. This daily camp runs from July 11, 2016-August 19, 2016. Locations are: The Golightly Education Center (5536 St. Antoine) and George Crockett Academy (4851 14th St) in Detroit. During the camp, children are involved in team sports such as: volleyball, basketball, kickball, baseball and more, arts and crafts, group mentoring, outdoor recreational play and are also served by a mobile dentist. Meals are provided by Good Samaritan Food and is run by up to 25 volunteers! Field trips are also optional and available! This year's theme is "Celebrate and Laugh," the fireworks is a tradition in Metro-Detroit, get a magnificent view of the fireworks at One Woodward on the 19th floor! Enjoy a barbecue style meal, laughs by Comedians Mic Larry and Simply Shanell and enjoy the sounds of singing sensation and recording artist Johnyce! Felted Bags and Purses - Artists Exchange
This 4 week workshop will focus on making bags and purses using a resist method of wet felting. For many, felt is a crafting material sold in squares made out of some mish-mosh of synthetic fibers. Felting is actually extremely natural and is one of the most ancient art forms in mankinds history. It is still a widely used method which can create anything from clothing to toys and even houses. In this class, students will learn the basic process of wet felting which creates wool fabric by layering raw wool fibers, adding warm soapy water and a little elbow grease. This is an inter-generational class. The felting process is simple but can be very versatile which makes it a great opportunity for parents and children to work together side by side. Each Winter Elite Faceoff Days will consist of warm ups, presentation and group practice of specific faceoff techniques as well as real time faceoffs. Faceoff techniques will include footwork, stance, hand position, primary move, counter move, GB play, wing play, stick work, and shooting instruction, etc. Individual player observation and instruction will occur throughout. Clinic will conclude with a skill appropriate king of the hill. Can you tell a bird from its call? Identify a mammal from its prints in the mud? Ever wonder where flying squirrels live? How to catch a snake or a bullfrog? Come join us as we adventure through creeks, marshes, forests, and the many natural places of beauty we have to explore on The Heights campus and all around the metropolitan area. The various ingredients of this camp make for a fantastic summer experience. From the personal attention and fun atmosphere of learning, to the outdoor adventures and games, this is an experience hard to beat or imitate. Activities: short classes, nature walks, daily journal, creek exploration, games, field and fishing trips, and specimen collection. Session I will focus on mammals, reptiles, and birds. Session II will focus on insects and trees. Staff Anton Vorozhko teaches 6th grade homeroom in the middle school. Contact Anton Vorozhko at The Heights School, Notes Save plastic jars with caps and old shoes. The normal dress is basic outdoor attire (shorts and gym shoes).
