Children learn literacy skills through songs, poems, literacy centers, small and whole group activities, and read-alouds. Children engage in play and activities that are related to alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, print knowledge, comprehension, reading and writing. The core of our literacy program was created at the Bank Street College of Education in New York. Meets twice per week. Put your school holiday days to work! Join us on Veteran’s Day, November 11, for a service day in the local Seattle community. Pack a lunch, snacks and water to stay energized for our project. Friday morning will be spent at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetland. We will be helping to restore the wetland habitat by removing invasive weeds, spreading mulch, and planting native trees and shrubs! $15 fee to participate includes staff supervision and transportation to service projects.

Get ready to figure out the why, how and wow of computer programming in this interactive coding camp! The camp explores many aspects of gaming, both on and off the computer. Using MITs Scratch computer language, kids learn how to program their very own unique games and animations. In addition, campers apply problem-solving strategies to create offline, traditional games such as checkers, labyrinth, and the electrified board game "Operation"! All camper projects are theirs for the taking, whether its a computer program uploaded to MITs website or an original board game to be played at home with friends. In addition to all your favorite camp activities, you will have an opportunity to plan and lead a program for younger campers. You will learn new leadership skills, plan and complete a service project and go on two trips! During your first week, you will visit High Gravity Adventures Aerial Adventure Park in Boone, and then you will learn about the logistics of trip planning as you plan your off-site adventure for your second week! There will be plenty of time to relax and enjoy all the traditional camp activities you know and love from cascading to archery to campfire songs.
