Skills and Skating sessions at Arcadia Mon, Tues and Thurs 7:20AM-8:50AM for ALL youth hockey players who are homeschooled or online schooled regardless of school or hockey organization (example: if you are a peewee A player at Mission, homeschooled by your parents via chandler online prep you can still attend Bobcats Academy for morning skills sessions). Sessions must be paid monthly. Disclaimer***due to the increased cost of ice we can no longer offer free weds night sessions as part of the Academy package***. Adolescents today face the competing demands of doing well in school, being popular, developing close relationships with friends and romantic partners, and appearing sexually attractive to others. Each of these challenges is affected by stereotypes about what is considered desirable or undesirable for each gender. Sexism occurs when these stereotypes constrain the self-image and aspirations of girls and boys. What are the most powerful influences in teen sexism – family, peers, school, music, social media. How are these influences and the stereotypes they promote affecting teen relationships and school success? Do you worry about their effects on your children? Campbell Leaper, Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at UC Santa Cruz, and co-founder of the Gender Development Research Conference, is an expert on gender ideologies, self-concept, sexism, and gender bias in schools. He will talk about the ways that gender stereotypes affect girls’ and boys’ self-image, relationships, and school success. Most importantly, he will discuss what adults can do to mitigate sexism and the negative cultural influences in our kids’ lives. Ceramics 3 - RAKU! Ceramic Intensive - Artists Exchange
For two weeks, your child will be immersed in the world of clay. Campers will learn everything from prehistoric clay working methods, to the modern work of artistic ceramics, and everything in between. The first week is devoted to developing skills using the pottery wheel, sculpting by hand, as well as learning technical aspects of clay including where it comes from, how its used, how its recycled and turned into a finished piece. During the second week, campers will explore different glazing and firing processes including everything that goes into building, loading and firing a traditional Japanese Raku kiln. Safety precautions will be set in place so campers can have a blazingly amazing time! *This is a 9 day camp. Artists Exchange is closed Monday in observance of Independence Day. 401-490-9475
