LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Mountain Biking Camp - Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Commission
Trying to find something new and challenging for your child this summer? This week long Mountain biking camp will offer kids a great opportunity to explore the great outdoors and challenge themselves while learning fun, new cycling skills that they can use for years to come. We will explore great trails in and around the eastern panhandle, where the kids will learn how to climb, descend, and maneuver on rough and technical terrain. This sport is not only physical but fun too. Campers will need to provide an appropriate bike*, helmet, and wear appropriate clothes and footwear. Campers will also need to bring a bag lunch and plenty of water. On Friday, June 17th, there will be a bike check from 5-7pm at the Jefferson County Community Center for those enrolled in camp to make sure their bike and equipment are safe for camp. Children will take Jefferson County School buses to a different location each day during the week. Locations will include, Poorhouse Farm, Cacapon State Park, Greenbrier State Park and FLOC. Our kids have been going to the local Boys and Girls club for the past year but this was the first time they ventured out for summer camp. I'm so glad they did. They got to try out so many new things. One of the big hits was the work in the garden. Now they want to turn out backyard into a vegetable patch. Campers will practice being lawyers by studying constitutional issues and learning to make arguments in front of a court. Moot Court camp gives campers who are interested in law, public policy, and leadership an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in legal analysis. This is a four day camp. 8504737468.0

Sweets and Savories This week kids will enjoy scrumptious treats found at bakeries, cafes, and bistros. Youll learn to garnish, plate, and serve them, too! Recipes will include favorites such as fruit tarts with freshly churned ice cream, gourmet grilled cheese and summer gazpacho, double chocolate cookies, and cobb salad. Kids will safely learn kitchen fundamentals, palate development, and culinary techniques in the professional kitchen. The camp will explore subjects such as behavior, biology, science of flight, birds? jobs in nature, diet, husbandry, and the importance of conservation and biodiversity. Under close adult supervision there will be hands on interaction with real, live birds. Each day one or two different birds will visit camp. Camp will include education, scrapbook making, crafts, feedings and creative play. Please send a healthy snack with your child each day.
