LATEST CAMPS NEWS: FRIDAY : Pre & K Program - Archaeological Mysteries - The Philadelphia School
Join us for an exciting day exploring archaeological mysteries of various ancient cultures. Students will learn about the construction of a pyramid and create a three- dimensional, textural model of this ancient wonder. They will create personal cylinder seals by carving ancient symbols into a rolled cylinder and then imprint this image into slabs of clay. We will also design relief replicas of a series of ancient Geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in Peru known as Nazca Lines. Choice games, indoor and outdoor activities and a mid-morning snack of a delicious Turkish food will be provided. Please have your child bring a lunch including a beverage. Please pack a lunch (including a beverage) in a disposable bag. For the safety of our students, please DO NOT INCLUDE PEANUT BUTTER or any nuts in your childs lunch. Students are required to wear a red t-shirt on all trips. The program will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with drop-off available in the yard beginning at 8:00 a.m. (at no extra charge). **Extended day is available from 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. for an additional $20. Extending the Fun of the Club
Our kids have been going to the local Boys and Girls club for the past year but this was the first time they ventured out for summer camp. I'm so glad they did. They got to try out so many new things. One of the big hits was the work in the garden. Now they want to turn out backyard into a vegetable patch. Part of the festivities is the Kid's Camp, where we endeavor to provide safe, affirming, and awesomely fun activities to the children attending the camp. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we are low on volunteers on Friday afternoon and evening and all day Saturday. If you are available any portion of the day Friday from noon to 7 p.m. or Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and can supply a valid child abuse clearance (within the last 2 years), please message me. Our Orange Crushers class is a great fit for both the beginner and intermediate young player. This class is designed to continue building an athletic base while teaching the fundamentals necessary to serve, rally, and score. Children also begin to learn more advanced movement, technique, and patterns of play utilizing the larger court space. Being a counselor-in-training (CIT) is a leadership opportunity for high school students. CITs lead younger campers during their camp sessions, helping younger kids make friends, try new things, and have a great time. CIT camp is an opportunity learn all the skills it takes to be an amazing counselor, from leading songs and games to public speaking, time management and group leadership. Being a CIT is one of the best experiences at Camp Talahi! You must attend this training week to be a CIT for summer 2016. Active Learning Services provides students with the opportunity and skills to create something similar to a Mario Go-Kart style game. What fun! Campers design their own world, then place characters into the world and program the characters to move and interact with other characters. Children will use their creativity as they build a world full of racing tasks. Teen Wheel-Throwing - Ashtonn Means - The Art Center
Whether youve never touched clay before, thrown just one time, or have experience throwing, this is the class for all teens 14-18! Throughout this course students will learn the skills behind wheel-throwing, glaze application, and a basic understanding of Cone 10 materials and firing, as well as design principles for functional pottery, fundamentals of form, and aesthetic design techniques. Every class will have demonstrations, hands-on projects, and one-on-one guidance on the wheel-throwing process. Students are strongly encouraged to be self-directed and to bring project ideas and learning goals to work on throughout the eight-week course. Demonstrations will be geared toward students learning goals. See you there! Ashtonn Means is a Grand Junction native and has been doing ceramics since age thirteen. She continues to study at the Western Colorado Center for the Arts and is a member of the Grand Junction Clay Arts Guild. A senior at Colorado Mesa University, Ashtonn will graduate in May 2016 with a BFA in Studio Art and a minor in Psychology. Performance art is a catalyst in her pottery for the decorative design elements—slip trailing, stamping, glaze color, form—applied to the pieces.
