Counselors-In-Training - Wk. 7 (FD) - F. H. Hammond Elementary School
Teens, ages 12-14, get the opportunity to gain valuable experience and have alot of fun as a CIT. This camp will teach them how to be great future camp counselors through planning, team building, teaching and supervision. Upon aging out of this camp, does not mean you can apply for a camp counselor. You must be 18. Each week a parent letter and itinerary will be compiled for you to take which will list all activities/trips for that week. These will be available on the sign-in table each week. All camp activities will be held between 9AM-4PM. Parents are able to drop their child(ren) off between 7AM-9AM and pick them up between 4PM-6PM. All scheduled activities and trips will take place during the 9AM-4PM time frame. Early drop-off/pick-up will be designated for free time, smaller organized games and/or board games. Full-day campers should pack a lunch, 2 snacks and plenty of water. Half-day campers should pack a snack and plenty of water. All campers should have their own sunscreen and wear gym shoes. The HCA fine arts academy is geared toward those students who are serious about visual arts. Their day will include 2 sessions studio time with different teachers learning to work with acrylic, ceramics, watercolor, pastels and pencil drawing. We will be making functional projects (think pillows and other stuffies) and fun projects (think wall art and banners and maybe even some doll clothes). We will work on hand sewing skills, hand craft skills and basic sewing machine skills. No experience is necessary and all supplies are included. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Campers should bring a water bottle and snack each day. Creative Adventures is an introduction to performing arts while learning to play creatively. We will utilize theatre exercises and "games" that assist in developing verbal and fine motor skills. We will pantomime, sing, and dance to music. Simple costume pieces and instruments are utilized. We also focus on the art of storytelling and how we can use our minds, voices, bodies and the space around us. We will create basic props, puppets and masks related to the stories to assist in the retelling and acting out a story. Card stock, paper bags, and art supplies are some of the materials used to create these items since the focus is on retelling and acting out the story not making an art project. End of Session Performance: On our last class day for this session, Friday, we will have a demonstration of the activities your child has participated in this week. It will be during the last 30 minutes of camp (11:30). Pictures and videos are allowed. Please take into consideration that your child may or may not feel self conscious with you and other parents watching. They may not perform or participate the same as they have in camp.
