Children learn literacy skills through songs, poems, literacy centers, small and whole group activities, and read-alouds. Children engage in play and activities that are related to alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, print knowledge, comprehension, reading and writing. The core of our literacy program was created at the Bank Street College of Education in New York. Meets twice per week. Rise Up Florida High School Retreat November 6-8, 2015 Word of Life Retreat Center Hudson, Florida Join us as we welcome the band Lost & Found to join us for Rise Up Florida as one of their last stops on their farewell tour. This event is for both those who attended the Gathering and for those who were not able to attend. It will equip and re-ignite those who were at the Gathering to "bring the Gathering home" and to provide a feel of the Gathering to those who were not able to be there. Utilizing some of the resources, video and music from the Gathering and adding in some of our own, we will encourage youth to examine their story and the story of their community and congregation and to explore how God might be calling them to tell His story and affect change where they see injustice. Chess Camp, Afternoon - Francis W Parker
Chess Wizards introduces students to the magical world of chess. Campers learn how to play and master chess techniques from our renowned Chess Wizards. They learn cool chess openings, midgame tactics (including forks, pins, discovered attacks and more) and endgames concepts. The camp caters to all levels of chess players, and participants are divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Wizards. All participants receive a Chess Wizards t-shirt and earn a trophy.
