Nasimco Youth Leadership Retreat 2016 - Fruitland Park, FL
NASIMCO is pleased to announce the 2016 Youth Leadership Retreat with the theme of “Thinking Outside the Box: Making Your Voice Count!” This year the retreat will be held in sunny Orlando, Florida. It is an initiative led by youth with the vision of creating a forum for dialogue to enhance the ability of participants to think outside the box, engage in self-reflection, become socially conscious and have the confidence to act upon it in their local and global communities. This year’s retreat is hosted by the Husseini Islamic Center of Florida, INC. at the Warren W. Willis United Methodist Camp in sunny Fruitland Park, Florida. The retreat will combine facilitated workshops, debates, dialogue and recreational activities in order to optimize learning opportunities for all participants. It will take place during the Labour Day weekend, from September 2nd to September 5th, 2016. The intended participants are all youth ages 18 to 25. Registration is USD $200.00 per participant, which includes food, lodging, and ground transportation within Orlando. Spaces at the retreat are limited to 30 participants. Hey guys. We are in need of volunteers to help out at the Kid's Triathlon the university is hosting. This is a fun all day event on April 19th with several volunteer shifts to help fit your schedule! If you'd like to help make this a great experience for the young ones, please comment/post on this event telling us when you can volunteer. The shifts are: - 4:45am - 9am (this will entail mostly set up and concessions) - 9am – 1pm (concessions and help with trash pick-up during event) - 1pm – 4pm (concessions and help with trash pick-up during event) - 4pm – 7pm (concessions, tear down and help with trash pick-up during event) The more volunteers we get to help out with the event the better it helps support the club. Introduction to Discovery Camp: The Wild World Introduction to Discovery Camp is a shorter, scaled-down version of a traditional week-long Discovery Camp session. This allows children to build confidence and independence while developing an appreciation of the natural world through science education, exploration, and the traditional fun of summer camp. Note: This session is a 4-day introduction camp (Tuesday-Friday) and does not feature adventure days or wilderness camping, but weather permitting there will be a challenge hike and an on-site camping experience. Activities will take place in age-appropriate classrooms, the state-of-the art Griffin Gymnasium, expansive outdoor playground, and on an outdoor grassy field. Chess Wizards introduces students to the magical world of chess. Campers learn how to play and master chess techniques from our renowned Chess Wizards. They learn cool chess openings, midgame tactics (including forks, pins, discovered attacks and more) and endgames concepts. The camp caters to all levels of chess players, and participants are divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Wizards. All participants receive a Chess Wizards t-shirt and earn a trophy. Full-day campers receive a chess board their friends can autograph! This class is offered by Chess Wizards (chesswizards.com). Chess campers must bring their own peanut-free bag lunches and drinks. This is camp for those who want not just to have an experience, but to make an experience. We bring out the leadership skills in all our campers and help you create a unique week of camp. You will participate in all the Fowler has to offer and gain some of the skills that our staff has learned. If you are in 10th-12th grade, participation in LEAD also allows you to apply to come as a Student Working in Ministry (SWiM) and use your newly honed skills alongside of the Fowler staff.
