On Stage: Spotlight Camp - Matilda - Takoma Park Community Center
In On Stage: Spotlight, everyone is a star! Our two week camp is designed to allow students the opportunity to dive into performance and design/construction aspects of theatre by working on an abridged production. This year, students will perform 5-7 musical numbers with corresponding scenework from the Broadway hit, Matilda, based on Roald Dahls beloved book. Well start each day with physical, vocal, imagination & focus building warm-ups. Heres what well be doing: * * creating & developing characters * * rehearsing scenes/songs * * blocking/choreographing musical numbers * * learning music * * set design and scene painting * * designing/building props and costumes * * playing drama games * * getting to know the theatre space and theatre terminology * Our goal is to have every student on stage as much as possible, every student engaged in the creative process, every student proud discovering their design potential, every student proud of their work. Camp Einstein practices the Innovator Mindset; tools which help strengthen our communication, collaboration, creative and critical thinking skills. Our highly trained Lead Explorers will help children select projects from the following modules, including: Music and Mechanical Engineering, Flight and Aerial Photography, Textiles and Technology, Reverse Engineering, 3D Printing, Robotics, and Augmented Reality with Google Cardboard. Students will have access to some of the latest technology tools such as 3D printers, computers, and laser cutters, as well as traditional crafts as they complete the projects. Crafts will be made each day and our week will end with a Princess Tea Party (with all the dancers dressed as their favorite princess or prince, of course!) and an informal showing of our Princess Dance for friends and family! Princes are welcome too! Materials: A separate fee of $10 is payable to the instructor on the first day of camp for arts & craft materials. Attire: Leotard, tights, and ballet shoes (girls); shorts, T-shirts, and ballet shoes or socks (boys). Bring a princess dress, prince attire, or costume on the last day of camp. Griffins will dive into the pool twice a week, splash at waterparks and soak a friend with balloons, super soakers and more!
