Environmental Art Camp (VSA Tennessee partnership) - Gallatin, TN
Environmental Art Camp is a program created specifically for individuals with disabilities over the age of 13 who are interested in the environment and have a love of art. The camp will be under the direction of VSA Tennessee teaching artist, Dee Kimbrell. During the camp, the young people will learn about environmental issues and their effect on our national parks. Participants will create their own tunnel books that reflect ecosystems within the parks. They will also create a larger tunnel book specific to the Smoky Mountain National Park. This book will be given to the park as a 100th anniversary gift at Tremont in October. The book will remain on site as an educational tool. WEEK 1: EARTH What exactly is soil and how does composting improve it? What living things live beneath the earth we walk on? The earth and our local park and gardens provide our campers with an extraordinary opportunity for exploration. Our campers will begin tending to the soil and planting seeds. Our campers will also learn about composting with a visiting workshop from Brooklyn Botanic Garden. YOU WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO ADD DAILY AFTER CAMP CARE FROM 3-6PM IN THE "REVIEW CART" SECTION OF THIS REGISTRATION FORM, OR YOU CAN REGISTER FOR "AFTER CAMP PRO" WEEKLY INTENSIVES SEPARATELY.
