So long as humans have existed on this planet, microbes have coexisted with us. Theyve lived in our bodies and thrived in the environment, posing a silent and constant threat. Theyve caused fevers and panic, helped with digestion and immunity. In this introductory course in human microbial disease, students will be introduced to the impact that various microbes have had in our lives. Students will learn the principles and methods of disease investigation: investigating patterns of illness in populations, identifying infectious microbes by visual assessment, mode of infection, and symptoms. These skills include Shooting, Dribbling, Passing, Rebounding, and Defense. We will also teach proper teamwork and sportsmanship which is vital to becoming a strong basketball player. Fundamentals Sports Camp is a six week program which may include basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, Summer Olympics, and flag football. Each week we focus on learning the rules and history of a sport, playing it at least once each day. Old camp favorites such as dodge ball, capture the flag, four square, and pirate ball are incorporated into the program as well. However, Fundamentals Sports Camp is not only about the games we play but it is our "off the field" curriculum that sets us apart form other sports day camps. Informal discussions on sports current events, character-building, sportsmanship, and choosing role models are held daily. Fundamentals teaches children the value of teamwork and commitment which are the essential elements of success in sports, as well as in life. This camp is a special introduction to acting that gives each child a chance to shine! Whether your child loves to do "shows" in your living room, or you wish they felt more comfortable expressing themselves, in this camp every voice is heard. We use creative movement and fun acting games that boost confidence and help build the body-mind connection. With a camper to caring counselor ratio of 4:1, there is a lot of individual attention. Confidence grows as children share their ideas and impressions, working collaboratively on their skit. Each week there are improv games and fun activities that help with concentration and observation skills. During the week campers sing and tell some jokes onstage, build a shoe box set, and paint the scenery for the show. Each day campers practice and prepare for their skit on Friday. We laugh a lot! INSTRUCTOR ROBERTA MASTERS-CULLEN has been teaching childrens classes and camps at the Little Theatre for seven years. She is a member of the Screen Actors Guild specializing in radio and television voiceovers, and has been a television news anchor and reporter.
