2016 Pre-Teen Summer Camp – Register March 9-11 - Scott Air Force Base
Youth, ages 9-13, are invited to register for the YP Pre-Teen Summer Camp which is held weekdays during the summer months from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This camp offers half day care with extracurricular activities for youth. Field trips will be conducted once a week to places like Sky Zone, City Museum, Raging Rivers Water Parks, The Fusion, laser tag, as well as excursions to base activities. (Field trips/activities such as bowling are an additional cost.) Fee: $100/child per week, plus the cost of excursions. Youth Programs membership is required. Annual Program membership is $48/child. Camp begins at 6:30 a.m., and ends at 12:30 p.m. when open recreation at the Youth Center starts. Youth are required to bring their own meals, however the snack bar is open periodically. Limited slots are available, sign-up early! Dissect a grasshopper and flower, test how ants respond to stimuli, create an insect soundscape, and more! The Lacey Park Day Camp is full of fun activities for children grades K thru 6th. This is an outdoor recreation camp. Campers will learn about the benefits of being physically active; as well as, having a healthy lifestyle in the outdoors. Each week campers will engage in various group games, art projects, participate in a talent show and weekly field trips to the Hanford Teen Center, Hanford Plunge and the local Library. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided. A weekly food menu will be provided at request. If your child has a particular taste, you may consider bringing a sack lunch for your child. At Cool Creations, each week of camp is dedicated to a different STEM project that is both fun and engaging. Campers explore and tackle a variety of situations and use their math and general problem-solving skills to address them. Through projects like designing a playground, rocket building, crafting video games and programming their own robots, students will experience what it would be like to be an architect, aerospace engineer, industrial engineer, and video game programmer. Every day campers also have ample opportunity to do the things that are typically done in a summer camp such as swimming, field trips, sports, games and other fun physical activities. During the first hour of flag football camp, children will focus on the fundamental skills of football such as passing, punting, kicking and defense. Agility and hand-eye coordination will also be emphasized. During the second hour, children will be able to eat a healthy snack and then participate in a series of cooperative games that will enhance their capabilities of being a good teammate and showing good sportsmanship. The third hour of flag football camp will focus on the basic rules of the game such as flag guarding, off sides , false start and passing interference, as well as the scoring system for football and the duties of each position. Additionally, modified games of flag football will be played during the third hour. Built a Custom Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and Explore Lake Champlain! Using a SeaPerch ROV kit we will learn how to assemble, solder, wire, and fly an ROV. We will use our ROVs to explore the bottom of Lake Champlain and learn how nautical archeologists and scientists use ROVs to study shipwrecks and the aquatic life of the lake. 802-475-2022
