My 5 year old daughter loved Camp Galileo. Since they group children by ages, she got to meet other children with similar interests. She was having so much fun she didn’t realize she was also learning about science and art. My 9 year old son enjoyed the outdoor activities. His favorite game was playing Star Wars tag. If God threw a party, would everyone be invited? Would You? Well you are all invited to come on the annual Youth Winter Retreat What if Jesus meant something very different by the concepts of heaven, hell and salvation from how we have been taught and understand them? Pastor Larry DeVuyst will lead us to tackle these questions and more as we work through our retreat study from Rob Bell’s book, Love Wins, for Teens. As always there will be fun games, good food, and time with friends. Complete the retreat form found on WPC website youth page and turn it in to my mailbox with a check for $50 by 1/8. We need a count for food, games and supplies so please reserve your spot soon. Pick up the easy to read book from Pastor DeVuyst to read ahead. We hope to provide a calming one-on-one experience for these children to cater to their sensory needs. We will have several hairdressers helping out with this event. How much water can fit on penny? Can you stir up floating bubbles and puffy foam? Join this camp to explore the physics of things that fall, float, and flutter and the chemistry of solutions that are slippery, sticky, and slimy. Design a cardboard box fort, tinker with a marble run, and experiment with incline planes. Future engineers will be constructing, propelling, and stirring all sorts of contraptions. Do you think you can solve a highly interactive robotics game? Would you like to create an effective scoring robot both using tele-operated mode and autonomous mode using the VEX IQ Design system? If you answered yes to those questions, this is the camp for you! Students will learn how to design effective robots, overcome design challenges, and effectively use motors, gears and sensors in a winning combination to create a robot. On the last day of camp, participants will run their robots in a real competition in front of friends and family! VEX IQ robotics design system will be used to learn the art of engineering, science and programming. Willem Scholten is Seattle Preps robotics coach.
