Neighborhood Park Camp at Washington Park is a traditional, high-quality camp that is fun and affordable. Activities include arts and crafts, physical fitness games and challenges, dance, visits to the library, enrichment activities and swimming. Campers play basketball, soccer, volleyball and softball. Instruction is also offered in golf and tennis. Campers are escorted to Robinson Park Recreation Centers swimming pool for recreational swim two times per week. Staff go into the water with the campers and certified lifeguards are always present. Fun field trips are often the highlight of the week. Trips are an additional charge and are scheduled for once a week. This camp is a good fit for active campers who like sports and group activities. The ratio of staff to campers is 1 to 10. Campers are grouped by age, and lunch and a snack are provided. Camp culminates in the annual War Games in which Washington Park Camp and La Pintoresca Park Camps compete in a series of challenges to determine an annual camp champion. Our middle school program focuses on the essentials of rowing in the stable training barge and then both sculling (rowing with two oars each) and sweep rowing (rowing with one oar each). The athletes row in the training barge, coxed quads, eight-person boats, and they learn valuable skills such as teamwork, fitness conditioning, and safety on the water. Step Into Sewing (Audrey Oberman) This project-based 3 hour camp-day (x5 days) will start with the basics so no experience is needed! Campers will work at their own individual pace and may choose from several smaller projects like a needle book and pincushion and then work on a larger project throughout the week, or a mixture of both! They will learn how to thread machines, sew straight seams and iron them, as well as some different techniques for finishing seams, and how to add closures (snaps, buttons, zippers, ties) to projects. More experienced campers may choose to learn how to cut from a pattern and make a simple garment such as pajama shorts. During all weeks...New children: will work on the basics and pick special projects and team up with the experts. Returning children: will be able to continue with what they heave learned, re-make favorites. NEED: labeled water bottle, snack, lunch and shopping bag to hold projects. Kids Spring Break Camp - Hermitage Museum & Gardens
Magical Gardens Gardens are a major part of what makes the Hermitage so special. During this week of camp we will celebrate various gardens as we take your young artist out into the beautiful Rose Garden, Sunken Garden, and Rain Gardens at the Hermitage. Campers will do observational drawings, landscape paintings and create their very own ‘magical garden. Through nature walks they will discover garden sculptures and learn about patterns in the natural world. This year campers will also have a special opportunity to contribute to the Hermitages very own vegetable garden! Allow your artist to discover magic in the Hermitage Gardens!
