August 1-11: Backpacking/ Digital Storytelling (Ages 13-16) - Mountain Kids!
We are psyched to bring our dual passions for getting into nature and documenting our adventures to Mountain Kids! Campers will spend the first day learning what it takes to makes a compelling video, composition and audio recording. Campers will then learn how to prepare and pack for a backpacking trip, the 6 Ws of preparing for any outdoor trip, map reading and leave no trace principles. We will spend time writing and creating stories on a two night backpacking trip. During the second week, campers will share their time between the recording studio, the computer lab and getting outside to create a 2-3 minute video of their adventures. On Thursday evening we will celebrate with a screening of their work. Equipment Needed: • Backpacking pack, sleeping pad, a sleeping bag, and a mess kit (bowl, fork, spoon, cup). Some campers will need a tent to share. • A small camera or phone to capture stills and video • A small notebook and a pencil (There is an additional $25 materials fee in addition to camp tuition) 505-699-6230
Robot Olympics 2016: Session A - Connecticut Science Center
Get ready to achieve robot glory! Build and train resident CSC robots to race through obstacle courses and compete in Olympic-style events that will challenge new and experienced programmers alike. Campers will also construct their own robots to take home. Price includes additional materials needed for a great week at camp. Mini Mulligans Tour at Naval Academy Golf Course - Naval Academy Golf Course
The Mini Mulligans Tour will consist of 10 events in the Greater DC & Baltimore areas. This tour is a developmental tour, targeted towards beginner juniors ages 6 to 9. Ages 6-9 – Should have some basic golf ability e.g. can grip and swing a club. Divisions 6-7 year olds - They will play three holes. Better players may play up into the next level. 8-9 year olds – They will play six holes. If you are 10 year old that is not that experienced or isnt ready for nine holes. Tees All Mini Mulligans play will be from the Gold Family Tees. Ten-Shot Rule A player shall take no more than 10 strokes before reaching the green on a hole. Once 10 strokes are reached, the player must pick up his ball and place it on the putting green. A player shall take no more than 4 putts per hole. Pull Carts Pull carts are allowed for use unless prohibited by the golf course. Caddies Parents are allowed to caddy for the child playing in the Mini Mulligans Tour Event. Dress Code 1. Saturday Discovery with Nelli Shevelkina (Ages 6-11) - Young People
Skills in the visual arts are built in the same way as learning to play a musical instrument or sport: by practicing and training, and by challenging you with new techniques and ideas. In Drawing and Discovery, young artists ages 6-11 will explore fundamental concepts of line, texture, shading, and color through the fun, creative, and age-appropriate projects. Students will try their hand at figure drawing, portraits, volume and perspective, and experiment with professional art materials. Students will work independently or as a group according to their age, level of experience, personal interest and individual artistic style. Note: This class will be offered continuously during the year, allowing students to progressively develop skills in visual literacy, perception and creativity progressively. This weeks theme is Jurassic Journey. Dinosaurs come back to life! Journey through time back 65 million years, when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Fossils, volcanoes and dinos all help campers explore the Jurassic world. Dinosaur week, engages campers through interesting and motivating activities. Campers will practice many social skills planned around their needs and skills to promote friendship building, cooperation, teamwork, and interaction skills. Campers will enjoy fun activities centered on social interaction, cooperative play, conversation skills, turn taking, and many more skills appropriate for their age and ability level.
