In On Stage: Spotlight, everyone is a star! Our two week camp is designed to allow students the opportunity to dive into performance and design/construction aspects of theatre by working on an abridged production. This year, students will perform 5-7 musical numbers with corresponding scenework from the Broadway hit, Matilda, based on Roald Dahls beloved book. Well start each day with physical, vocal, imagination & focus building warm-ups. Heres what well be doing: * * creating & developing characters * * rehearsing scenes/songs * * blocking/choreographing musical numbers * * learning music * * set design and scene painting * * designing/building props and costumes * * playing drama games * * getting to know the theatre space and theatre terminology * Our goal is to have every student on stage as much as possible, every student engaged in the creative process, every student proud discovering their design potential, every student proud of their work. Kids Winter Art Camp: Mixed-Media Masks! - Bellingham, WA
In this winter break art class, we'll imagine that we are in a warm tropical place with palm trees, wild birds singing, and sandy beaches. To inspire our imagination, we’ll learn about the French post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin, the location of Tahiti, and a brief history of Tikis. Tiki masks actually have a long, rich history in Polynesian culture. The Tiki masks were originally hand-carved wooden masks that were used to symbolize deities, give protection, and increase luck. We'll create our own colorful and textured papers with paints with a variety of brushes, and different items to make texture, in mixed-media format, then use the painted papers to create our Tiki masks.
