Rise Up Florida High School Retreat November 6-8, 2015 Word of Life Retreat Center Hudson, Florida Join us as we welcome the band Lost & Found to join us for Rise Up Florida as one of their last stops on their farewell tour. This event is for both those who attended the Gathering and for those who were not able to attend. It will equip and re-ignite those who were at the Gathering to "bring the Gathering home" and to provide a feel of the Gathering to those who were not able to be there. Utilizing some of the resources, video and music from the Gathering and adding in some of our own, we will encourage youth to examine their story and the story of their community and congregation and to explore how God might be calling them to tell His story and affect change where they see injustice. Our time together will include: * Large Group Sessions * Congregational Small Groups * Large Group Games * Campfire * Climbing Wall * Zip Line * Heated Pool * Water Slide * Music with Lost & Found and so much more! Little Aquanauts (Week 8 AM) - Maritime Mysteries - NESS
Venture on and around the water using maps and clues to solve these maritime mysteries. Use compasses, kayaks, microscopes, historical stories, and animal evidence to decipher the hints to reveal and find your destinations. Go geocaching, utilize compasses, and use magnifying glasses and microscopes to help reveal some of the millions of planktonic animals and algae living all around us. 860-535-9362
Africans in Diaspora - Fieldston
Only open to students who are currently enrolled in Fall 2015 session The Africans in Diaspora Club will expose students to a variety of cultures while also looking at the many ways that Africa and its people have influenced the broader world. Students will have the opportunity to read, and critically discuss, Margy Burns Knights book, Africa Is Not A Country, with the intent of dismantling stereotypes and developing an appreciation for Africas diverse people, histories, colors, languages and foods. Additionally, students will be actively engaged in the process of learning, playing, dancing, eating and organizing. There is a strong possibility that there will be an international trip (during Spring Break 2016) connected to this club. Club time will be used to prepare for the trip. 212-712-6230
