This course is designed as an introductory course for children who are interested in trying tap for the first time or would like to work on their technique and tap vocabulary. In this class the students will learn the basics of the American Musical Theatre tap dance style, as well as choreography to at least one song. Students will learn basic tap terminology along with tap performing techniques which will provide the student with a well-rounded knowledge of tap dance. This class is designed for 2nd-8th grade students. INSTRUCTOR MICHAEL PAGE graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelors degree in Theater, focusing on Musical Theater Performance, Directing, Dance/Choreography, and Lighting. He has been very active for the past 10 years in the Alexandria theater community, working with theaters such as; MVCCT, PCP, ACCT, and LTA. He has directed, choreographed, and fight choreographed children and adults alike. Drama Club/Shrek the Musical JR - 2nd Session - Annandale Village Gym
Children through young adults with HFA/Aspergers Syndrome have the opportunity to explore the art of improv, drama, and music with their peers. Drama Club is directed by a drama professional and music therapist who have extensive experience working with children and adults on the spectrum.This group provides participants with the opportunity to improve their communication skills within a small group or in front of a larger audience. Research has shown that children who participate in Drama/Acting activities improve their ability to react and respond to imaginary situations and feelings and eventually generalize these skills into their daily living. Acting can improve a childs self-confidence, communication and relatedness with their peers. This years production is Shrek the Musical Jr. 678-720-2177
Dancemakers (1st-3rd) - Head-Royce School
Instructor Kim Agnew is a multi-disciplined dancer, choreographer and dance educator teaching all over the greater Bay Area including, Head Royce, dance and music outreach with the San Francisco Ballet and 13 summers with Marin Ballet. As many students repeat dance in ASP, off campus or during the regular school day, they begin to have creative dance ideas of their own. In this class, Kim will guide the dancers in creating their own group choreography using the dance skills they bring to class as well as learning some new ones. New dancers have great ideas too and are more than welcome to join class. The dancers really have to work as a team, try each others ideas and see what their moves look like when someone else executes it.
