Nature & Pond Life - Middle School
Through observation and inquiry, students explore the Nature around them. In this session we take the children through nature trails and begin our journey with a trees parts and the role each part plays in a trees life cycle. After observing patterns in nature, students create their own design project that will reinforce the lesson learned. What makes a bird a bird? To find out, students go on a picturesque bird walk and use binoculars to observe birds closely. They comb the environment to investigate artifacts like feathers, feet, and skulls to discover how different birds learn to adapt and thrive in their special niches. A hands-on art project helps to reinforce this avian adventure. Through simple scientific observation and physical exploration, students investigate the nature of seeds, their role in the cycle of life, and interesting ways that they adapt, survive, and thrive in their environment. Students dissect seeds and then create their own seed mosaic. They learn about the lifecycles of bees and the role they play in pollination. Students observe and practice the art of bee communication. After learning about the production and harvesting of bee products, such as honey and beeswax, students use real beeswax to...
