Over the course of 4 days, the PreK-Grade students will learn essential swimming skills through fun and games. Combining a games-led approach with excellence in coaching and instruction, each student will learn the core aquatic skills needed to be a competent swimmer. In addition to working on the four competitive strokes, swimmers will learn numerous other skills, which will give them the ability to participate in a range of aquatic sports including synchronized swimming and water polo. Swimmers will also practice water rescue drills and discuss water safety. Requirements: Must be in the PreK – Grade group. Swimmers will be grouped by age and ability. Artists in Residence with Nelli Shevelkina & Connie Pfeiffer (Ages 7-14) - Young People
Express yourself! with Nelli Shevelkina Become an artist for a week in our art studios – dive into extreme sketching, painting, collage and sculpting. Work with different art media and learn how to create some art materials from scratch. Enhance drawing and painting skills by working on projects from observation. Discover and discuss masterworks. Experiment with many media choices and ideas from your imaginations. Projects include portraits, figures, sketching architecture and landscape outdoors, creating mini murals, collage, and 3-D multi media fabrications. Note: Includes a field trip to the Yale Art Gallery to view artwork and learn about several art media and techniques. Fun with Metal with Connie Pfeiffer Make jewelry and mini-sculpture with copper sheet metal and wire to wear or hang. Stamp, fold, hammer, bend, cut, twist and even heat metal to create pendants, medallions and forms from nature such as pea pods and leaves. Students will explore using basic hand tools, especially hammers, mallets, cutters, files, pliers and torches (one-on-one with instructor) to create works in metal. A-TEN-TION!!! CADETS, FALL IN!!! Officers Training Academy is now accepting enlistments for a week of drills, tactics, military strategy, and flour-bomb battle reenactments. Learn how Civil War officers trained their soldiers, prepared for battles, and entertained themselves during downtime. All cadets will be loaned a soldiers uniform and wooden training rifle for the week. Bring a parent for the academy camp-out on Friday night, have a soldiers campfire breakfast, and attend the graduation ceremony on Saturday morning.
