DISCOVERY CAMP began in 1989 as an age appropriate summer camp program for both children and teenagers. It has become the largest full-gospel camp in America reaching over 20,000 each summer. Their children, Andrew, Peter, and Abby are also involved in ministry. Discovery Camp's resides on a a 1,088-acre Christian retreat center and ministry headquarters located in Columbus, Texas. Three waterslides, go-carts, horses and age appropriate activities will remind your group just how much fun it is to be a Christian. Boating: Basic Sailing Camp - Lake Merritt Boating Center
Piedmont Recreation is proud to partner with the City of Oakland Lake Merritt Boating Center. Piedmont Recreation offers transportation to and from these camps. The Basic Sailing Camp requires a swim evaluation that can be arranged through the Piedmont Community Pool at (510) 655-5163. SWIM EVALUATION IS REQUIRED. This entry level sailing class will definitely give kids a chance to get their "sea legs". The campers start off learning the parts of the sailboat and by weeks end theyll understand wind direction as it relates to propelling, and more importantly, controlling their sailboat. Games and drills on the water help to teach these basic skills. No experience is needed. If your child does not have a swim evaluation verification on file, a swim evaluation will have to be completed before the first day of camp. Since humans began communicating, there has always been an urge to keep certain information underground: intended for certain eyes only and unreadable to all others. In this course, youll study, crack (decipher) and create (encipher) messages in a variety of cipher systems and historical contexts. Although youll time-hop throughout history and make stops with Julius Caesar, Ben Franklin and Abe Lincoln, among many others, youll end with an exploration of how cryptography--the study of codes and ciphers--has kept up with, and even created, the modern digital age.
