Victory Parks Camp has earned its longstanding reputation as a high-quality, fun, affordable, enriching program. Each day begins with a morning pep rally that sets the stage for an action-packed day. Activities include outdoor play, dance, arts and crafts, including painting, sculpting, lanyard making and chalk drawings, fitness activities and enrichment. Enrichment classes include health, hygiene and first aid instruction, cooking classes, computer and robotics play and specialized sports instruction in tennis and golf. Campers spend at least two hours daily doing physical fitness in the form of choreographed dance, group games, fitness competitions, team sports and supervised free play. Campers are escorted across the park to Pasadena High School?s swimming pool for recreational swim two times per week. Camp counselors go into the water with the campers and well-trained, certified lifeguards are always present. Before entering the pool, campers receive a water safety lesson. Each day of camp is designed to help girls and boys learn the individual skills to become more confident leading cheers and performing in front of crowds. Our Cheer and Dance camps pack a ton of cheer and dance fundamentals within each session, as well as simple fun routines and lessons! The staff guide the young athletes through the process of improving their individual skills, while developing their confidence and understanding of basic cheer concepts and skills. Theme 3: Energy and Sustainability [Urban Infrastructure] - Wow Science - Voorhees
In this theme, campers will explore how people use and work with energy as they develop and apply concepts of energy sources, energy receivers, energy transfer, energy chains, and energy storage. Specifically, we will conduct projects and experiments under the following topics: sun angle versus heating effect, how we measure energy, a Rube Goldberg energy chain, hydropower, an electric circuit, storing energy up a hill, energy trapped in the earth, model waterwheel, embodied energy, lowering environmental impact, and the greenhouse effect. Under the topic of sustainability, campers will examine the importance of the environmental sustainability of systems and activities related to urban infrastructure. Specifically, they will explore the following topics this summer: planning a sustainable community, solar water heater, solar lamp, evaluating runoff in their neighborhood, local natural hazards, model a biogas collector, build a composting system, and conduct a sustainability audit. Of course topics and associated activities will vary based on camp cohort – junior, main, or teen camp. Arcade Game Design (AM) - The Digital Arts Experience
Come for 1 or 2 weeks! All students will receive their own DAE 8GB flash drive to store their work on and take home! Code your own arcade game and design your own controller that works with it! The first half of this class will involve students coding their own old school arcade style game from scratch. Think something like Spade Invaders, Galaga, Pong and more! Then, well have the students work with Arduino boards and use physical programming to wire their own controller to work with the game. Finally, students will design their very own case for their controller that we will print out using our 3D Printers! Come both physical and digital programming for this interactive class where students will be able to show off their games and controllers to friends and family! **Please note**: We have Arduino UNOs & breadboards for the students to use as their controllers for the duration of the class but they will need to be returned at the end.
