Footsteps Mandarin Immersion Summer Camp is an opportunity for extended Mandarin immersion. While having a fantastic time, your child will begin to acquire the ability to use Mandarin correctly and confidently in various daily tasks and social situations. Our dynamic, experienced staff is either native speaking or fluent. Campers spend each day moving from one activity to the next, designed to provide an immersion experience while still allowing for a ton of fun. Your child will love exploring the language and traditions of China by tasting authentic Mandarin cuisine—using Chinese words, of course, and learning about and creating traditional Mandarin arts and textiles and taking field trips to expand your childs knowledge. A week or more of camp will help boost your childs language ability! There is a weekly field trip and special event. Two healthy snacks are provided each day. I went to CJDA every summer growing up, and now my girls attend every summer. I love it because they’re learning how to interact with other girls. With all of the back-biting and bullying you hear about in schools nowadays, I believe that CJDA works to counteract that. Girls at this camp learn to love and appreciate other girls. Bus fair is sponsored by the Bessemer City Chapter 1286, and tickets are covered in your registration fee. Don’t forget to bring YOUR secret award winning dessert for our Home Cookin’ Cook Off. The winner will receive a prize from WoodmenLife. Bring your silent auction items, as we will be holding a benefit for the camp. Also we will participate in another food drive for our National Community Focus, FIGHT HUNGER! Items will be donated to a local shelter. Join us at the Encinitas Skate Plaza for a week of skateboarding fun! Learn how to skate in a safe and controlled environment with expert instructors from the Neal Mims Skate Academy and SD Skatelife. This camp is designed to teach skateboards of any level. Come learn skateboarding fundamentals, meet guest professional skateboarders and make new friends. All participants must wear helmets, elbow and knee pads. Come for 1 or 2 weeks! All students will receive their own DAE 8GB flash drive to store their work on and take home! Code your own arcade game and design your own controller that works with it! The first half of this class will involve students coding their own old school arcade style game from scratch. Think something like Spade Invaders, Galaga, Pong and more! Then, well have the students work with Arduino boards and use physical programming to wire their own controller to work with the game. Finally, students will design their very own case for their controller that we will print out using our 3D Printers! Come both physical and digital programming for this interactive class where students will be able to show off their games and controllers to friends and family! **Please note**: We have Arduino UNOs & breadboards for the students to use as their controllers for the duration of the class but they will need to be returned at the end.
