Kids After Schoo Core Cooking Camp, Ages 5-8 (Bellevue) - Bellevue, WA
This is a wonderful program that will lay the foundation for healthy eating by educating and empowering students (ages 5-8) about basic kitchen safety, creating a healthy balanced plate, how to subsititue ingredients to make meals healthier and so much more! Classes are sold in a session of four, are held on Wednesdays frm January 4th-25th and are two hours long. The first 30 minutes of each class is dedicated to nutrition education including games and activities. The remaining time is dedicated to cooking, eating, and cleanup. Our Core Cooking Program covers topics such as: Kitchen Safety, Cross-Contamination, Healthy Snacks, Fueling Your Body, Healthy Breakfasts, MyPlate Nutrition, Lunch N Munch, Healthy Cooking Substitutions of Kids’ Favorite Foods Activity sheets, recipes, helpful tips, and individual workstations for hands-on activity are included in the course. The summer will be gone before we know it, but we are still galloping full speed ahead which is why Tomten Farm and Sanctuary will be offering a special mentoring program to animal loving kids ages 11-16. This unique program is designed for kids with the desire to learn more about the day-to-day operations of an animal sanctuary and get hands on experience with our rescues. Taught by our long term volunteer and intern, UNH Equine Science major, Aileen W., it’s sure to be chock of personal attention, education, hard work, and more animals than you can count. Join us at the farm 2-3 weekdays from July 10th to the 31st, 10:30-2:30 and help us go above and beyond to maintain happy, healthy animals 365 days a year. As always, safety comes first so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing (closed toed, hard shoes, bug spray and sunscreen) and bring a signed release, a copy parent/guardian license or federal ID (feel free to black out addresses, birth dates, and SS or S numbers) drinks, lunch, and an appetite to contribute and get involved with one of your favorite rescues! The Pennsylvania Youth Recovery Campaign and The Bridgeway School would like to formally announce that legislation is officially being sponsored in both the House of Representative (Rep. John Taylor –[R] Philadelphia) and the Senate (Sen. Pat Browne -[R] Pennsylvania) to promote recovery high schools in Pennsylvania. When enacted, this bill will create an alternate class of school designated Recovery High School. These schools will be suited to address the educational and recovery support needs of high school age/eligible youth dealing with substance use disorders in Pennsylvania. These schools will ensure that students receive the tools necessary to retain long term recovery, achieve academic greatness, and promote family inclusion, support, and overall wellness through education and recovery. We need your help to raise awareness for, and champion this cause on behalf of all Pennsylvania Youth. Please also join us for an Advocacy Training event on February 25th and 7pm at The Bridgeway School.
