Teen Writing Matters: A Summer Writing Camp July 18-22 - Grass Valley,
One Session ONLY! Monday – Friday, 1 to 4PM Class limit 20, minimum 8 Students need to bring paper and pens Minimum age: 13 $200 members, $225 non members Will we sing campfire songs? No. Will we write similes about the smell of a campfire, or lengthy descriptions of that one camp counselor who wears knee socks and a fanny pack? Perhaps. Join Kirsten Casey for five days of writing delight: creating poetry, characters, flash fiction pieces, and more. We will write everyday from 1-4 using a variety of prompts, strengthening our attention to detail, sharing our work, and eating candy. Kirsten Casey is a local California Poet in the Schools, who has been teaching creative writing to students in the area for over ten years. She earned her Masters in Creative Writing from San Francisco State, and you can find her work in the anthology Yuba Flows, and her own book of poetry, Ex Vivo: Out of the Living Body. As a teen, Kirsten kept a daily journal, wrote poetry and a play, and enjoyed quoting song lyrics. She loves working with teens because she feels like a teen trapped inside of an adult, and because she never tires...

Rising Stars: Musical Theater - The Little Theatre of Alexandria
This camp will provide students with a wonderful treasure chest of the theatre world: performing onstage, singing for musical theatre, and introduction to the backstage support. Campers will learn stage performance through: theatre exercises, improvisation, scene readings, stage movement and auditioning. They will have voice lessons that will emphasize vocal technique, vocal placement and production, breathing, and interpreting songs. All of the above will be combined into a performance to be presented to family and friends on the last day of camp. INSTRUCTOR LINDA WELLS is a private vocal teacher/coach, working primarily with children and teens. She has appeared in many musical theatre productions locally and elsewhere including The Music Man, Sweeney Todd, The Sound of Music, 1776, The Most Happy Fella, Side by Side by Sondheim, Brigadoon, George M!, Fiorello!, Guys and Dolls, and Godspell. Spring Break Program-Forest Park Elementary - Forest Park Elementary
IMPORTANT: Students need to bring their own laptop with mouse to attend this program. Snacks, Lunch, and beverages are NOT included. The program may be consolidated in one or two school sites based on enrollments. Parents will be informed at least one week prior to program start date. In this program, students learn about 3-D Printing, Vehicle engineering by rapid prototyping, and Computer Programming. They work in teams to build their own battery operated cars and race it on the final day. They learn 3-D modeling tools to make their own 3-D designs. Students will - 1. Learn how an engineer takes an idea from paper to a prototype. 2. Learn what is CAD/CAM and how it is used by Engineers. 3. Develop a design solution using given design constraints. 4. Evaluate competing conceptual design solutions for decision making 5. Plan and execute experiment; Collect and interpret data gathered by experiments; Use experimental data for an improved design solution 6. Learn about 3-D printing.
