The KMS Cycling preseason CX Camp will leave you ready and eager to begin the 2016-2017 Cyclocross season! There are many skills and race secrets involved in Cyclocross, and this camp will cover most of them! Topics include cornering, sand, barriers, hole shots, run-ups, and off-cambers, to strength and conditioning methods and plans, race preparation, course inspection, race tactics, pit management, bike maintenance, set-up, and repair, the importance of tire pressure, preparing for training/racing in inclement weather, riding efficiently, video analysis, practice races, and pathways to the elite levels of cyclocross. There will be demonstrations, drills, training rides, on-bike games, discussions, and guest appearances from top collegiate and local pro racers. Week #2: July 4-8: Solar Science: Fun in the Sun (4 Day Option Avail) Scientists in this spectacular solar science camp (say THAT three times fast..) learn all about what happens to electrons on the sun by working with electrifying plasma globes, harness the suns energy using solar panels and make 10 foot solar tubes fly through the air. Well study ultraviolet light, make amazing solar art, learn all about constellations and see how well sunscreen really works. Well make the most of our summer sun this year for sure! Using cybernetic principles pioneered by Norbert Wiener (1894-1964), campers will build a robotic dog that can walk, sense obstacles and navigate around them, and perform other tricks. Herbivores eat vegetables. Carnivores eat meat. A photovore seeks out the brightest light. Campers will build a robot that will turn and roll to locate and bask in the brightest light possible. When it finds the brightest light in a location, it will stop and emit a purr (or burp) to show that it is content. NOTE: THIS PROGRAM RUNS MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY FOR A HALF DAY. FRIDAYS ARE FIELD TRIP DAYS AND ARE THEREFORE FULL DAYS. UNLESS THE CAMP DIRECTOR GIVES YOU AN EARLIER ARRIVAL TIME, PLAN TO DROP OFF YOUR CHILD AT 9:00 AM ON FRIDAYS.
