Wk 7 • Teen Screenprint - Kala Gallery and Classroom
Take a deep dive into becoming a screenprint expert using the professional equipment that Kalas studio has to offer. We will start with the basics of cutting stencils for DIY printing and then move into more complex methods including multi-layered, repeat pattern, and photography-based images. Print on paper, fabric, shirts, and other clothing. Whether you are interested in drawing, hand-lettering, digital media, photography or graphic design, this is the class for you! Instructor Bio: Claire Kessler-Bradner is a second-generation San Francisco printmaker. Growing up in the culture of the print shop, she developed a love of process and problem-solving, materials, equipment and tools, and the collaborative camaraderie of making together. Her work in printmaking, painting, drawing, book arts, and sculpture addresses the narrative intersection of place and memory. After earning her MFA at California College of the Arts, Claire returned to teaching fine art at the middle and high school level. She has been an artist in residence at Kala since 2010, and her work in book arts is carried by Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley. 510-841-7000 x203

Bay Bounders (Week 6 AM) - Flight Phenomena - NESS
Birds, bees, butterflies, and even some plant seeds are professional flyers. Explore the science behind flight by looking at animal wings and feathers under microscopes, going on a bird hunt, testing seed floating abilities, and engineering your own parachutes, kites, and wind tube flying contraptions. See how a sail can act as a giant wing as you get a taste of sailing on a Sonar! Look to water to see what animals fly underwater and go boogie boarding to fly on waves. Folk Art Around The World with Nellie Shevelkina Go Global! Learn about different cultures through their arts. We will travel from Africa to the Americas, Europe to Asia, Australia and in between discovering traditional folk arts from around the world. Explore the history, techniques, and special meanings of various crafts while noticing similarities and differences in their designs, patterns, and styles. We will create mosaics, painted and printed fabrics, sand paintings, mask making, paper maché figurines, paper cutouts, clay whistles, just to name a few. Students are encouraged to research their own cultural and ethnic backgrounds and proudly share these artistic traditions with the class. Fun with Metal with Connie Pfeiffer Make jewelry and mini-sculpture with copper sheet metal and wire to wear or hang. Stamp, fold, hammer, bend, cut, twist and even heat metal to create pendants, medallions and forms from nature such as pea pods and leaves. Students will explore using basic hand tools, especially hammers, mallets, cutters, files, pliers and torches (one-on-one with instructor) to create works in metal. Woodshop Wizards Wood Working Camp - San Marcos Community Center
Campers will learn hands on techniques that enable them to build their very own wood bi-plane, racecar, and complete train with an engine, caboose, and cars! All projects will be painted, personalized and taken home to treasure. Students use only safe, age appropriate hand tools. Half-day Specialty Camps A full refund of fees, less a $10 cancellation fee, will be granted if the request is made on the Thursday prior to the start of the camp week. (If the request is made after the Thursday prior to the start of the camp week but before the first day, a full refund, less a $20 cancellation fee, will be granted). A prorated refund of fees, less a $10 cancellation fee, will be granted if the request is made before the second camp day. Students who transfer from one camp to another will be charged a $10 transfer fee.
