The focus of Boys Sports Camp is on learning and competing in team sports, including basketball, soccer, baseball, flag football, floor hockey, and volleyball. In addition, campers also will take part in a variety of traditional games such as dodge and whiffle ball as well as individual sports such as tennis, wrestling, and track and field. Team-building, self-awareness and interpersonal skills will also be a focus. Our passionate and professional coaching team under the leadership of GFS Boys Varsity Track Coach Tom Myran will help participants become more skillful and confident athletes. Even more importantly, campers will have a terrific time making new friends and bonding with their upper school athlete-counselors whose job it is to reinforce the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and doing ones best on a daily basis. Swims at the Germantown Cricket Club add to the summertime fun! We are excited to announce we will be having our first ever Youth Art Camp!! This will be a 3 day camp for 2 hours a day from 10am -12pm. Each day your child will learn a different form of art and create their own masterpiece to bring home. We will also provide a light snack each day. This will be a great learning opportunity for each child with a creative mind. I will have limited spaces. The fee for this camp is $60 a child for all 3 days. If you think you would be interested in signing up your child you may call the store @ 256-754-5018 and place a $20 non refundable deposit to hold your childs spot. In this camp, gymnasts will learn the proper fundamentals of gymnastics. Our fun filled lesson plans will keep the campers interested and excited about learning the basics of gymnastics. Gymnasts will work on skills using the beam, bars and springboard. Gymnasts will learn forward and backward rolls, bridges, handstands and cartwheels. This introduction to basic gymnastics is both fun and rewarding. Parents please provide snacks for your child, as we will be breaking daily for a snack. We encourage you to bring your own computer as we set up a nice space in our main area to compete with other kids, adding to the social aspect of the game. Prizes will be given to winners based on judging. All participants will go home with a small prize regardless of win or lose! Coffee and donuts will be provided by The DAE staff. Piedmont Recreation is proud to partner with the City of Oakland Lake Merritt Boating Center. Piedmont Recreation offers transportation to and from these camps. The Basic Sailing Camp requires a swim evaluation that can be arranged through the Piedmont Community Pool at (510) 655-5163. SWIM EVALUATION IS REQUIRED. This entry level sailing class will definitely give kids a chance to get their "sea legs". The campers start off learning the parts of the sailboat and by weeks end theyll understand wind direction as it relates to propelling, and more importantly, controlling their sailboat. Games and drills on the water help to teach these basic skills. No experience is needed. If your child does not have a swim evaluation verification on file, a swim evaluation will have to be completed before the first day of camp.
