While some of these programs do provide valuable advice, most of them are filled with poor choices that, if followed, will get you injured or killed in a real emergency. Without proper training, separating the fact from fiction can be a difficult task. Our primary focus this week is to teach participants the practical skills that will save them in a true emergency. While a number of Traditional Skills will be introduced, our goal this week is to provide participants with a pragmatic skill set. For instance, spending five hours building a lean-to when it gets dark in 20 minutes is not a practical choice. Trying to build a bow-drill fire kit from scratch without a knife and without properly seasoned wood in the damp environment of the Pacific Northwest is rarely practical. Although those types of skills will be demonstrated, we will challenge you to perfect the basics first – like carrying a small fire steel and a couple of cotton balls...

Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp Stew Night - Presque Isle, ME
On Friday, February 5th starting at 5:00 PM and ending at 7:00 PM, Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp (ATLC) will be hosting Stew Night at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club. For $6 you can get a combo of a Main Dish (either Stew or Soup), drink, and a dessert. Grilled cheese sandwiches will also be available to purchase. Come on out and let us do the cooking for you! Civil War Officer Training Academy - Historic Travellers Rest
A-TEN-TION!!! CADETS, FALL IN!!! Officers Training Academy is now accepting enlistments for a week of drills, tactics, military strategy, and flour-bomb battle reenactments. Learn how Civil War officers trained their soldiers, prepared for battles, and entertained themselves during downtime. All cadets will be loaned a soldiers uniform and wooden training rifle for the week. Bring a parent for the academy camp-out on Friday night, have a soldiers campfire breakfast, and attend the graduation ceremony on Saturday morning. Woodlands Bridge Group - WUMC Room
The PLAY group is for 4- 7 year old children needing social interaction. Come work on sensory exploration and floor play with a specialist in learning differences. Kids will enjoy interacting with one another, music, and game activities. Week 1: Young Scientist/Photography and Fiber Arts - The Childrens Tree Montessori School
Young Scientists (3-6): Daily experiments and take-home project, exploring the human body and our senses and the universe will keep preschoolers busy. Photography & Fiber Arts (6-12): Participants will explore local nature areas with cameras and learn digital editing. Those interested in fiber arts will also learn to knit, crochet and weave. Participants will need to bring their own camera. Enlist in the splish splash mission to get a taste of kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and surfing practice safely in the harbor.
