Adapted Bike Camp - Forsythe Middle School
This summer, LightUp is pleased to be partnering with the Ann Arbor Public School Recreation & Education Department to bring an exciting new bike camp to Ann Arbor. This camp gives individuals with special needs the thrill of independently riding a two-wheel bicycle. Developed by iCan Shine Inc., this program is offered through a 5-day summer camp. Camp runs during the week of June 27th for 75 minutes per day, there are 5 sections of camp to choose from. Monday- Friday , 75 minutes per day. This summers (2016) camp is geared specifically to the needs of youth diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. To apply, complete an application with the Ann Arbor Public School Recreation and Education Department. LightUp will provide a limited number of scholarships to families who may qualify based on financial need. Follow this link to apply to LightUps financial scholarship. Spring 2016 Life on the Farm Camp - Connolly Ranch
The kids need something to do for spring break—and Connolly Ranch has a camp full of activities designed to keep them engaged in the outdoors. During our week, the children will take care of the farm animals including the new spring lambs and baby chicks, get creative with arts and crafts, learn about our honeybees and other pollinators, cook with local ingredients, build natural shelters, learn about seed starting in the greenhouse, get their hands dirty in the garden and of course hike and explore the nature trails in Westwood Hills park. Our Cheer and Dance camps pack a ton of cheer and dance fundamentals within each session, as well as simple fun routines and lessons! The staff guide the young athletes through the process of improving their individual skills, while developing their confidence and understanding of basic cheer concepts and skills. This class is for the student who has completed Algebra I and wants to reinforce those skills before entering Geometry or Algebra II. There will be particular emphasis on the second semester Algebra I concepts that typically cause students difficulty. Items covered will include the following: solving and rearranging equations, slope, writing equations of lines, solving systems of equations, simplifying exponents, multiplying binomials (FOIL) reducing radical expressions, and factoring. Students are expected to take notes, work on in-class assignments, and should be prepared to complete some assignments at home.
