Imagine a camp where kids are given the freedom, space and materials to build, create and play their way! Projects are offered, yet kids lead with their ideas and take ownership over the project outcomes. In KOOP's one of a kind camp, kids have access to a multitude of 'Loose Parts' to create, build and experiment freely! The kids will learn constantly by doing and pursuing their specific interests! 3rd Annual Fireworks Fundraiser "Celebrate and Laugh" for Avengers Fre
The Avengers Mentoring Organization (501c3) presents it's 3rd Annual Charity Fireworks Fundraiser for our 5th Annual Summer Camp! Our FREE summer camp serves 300 children ages 6-13 in and around the Metro-Detroit area. This daily camp runs from July 11, 2016-August 19, 2016. Locations are: The Golightly Education Center (5536 St. Antoine) and George Crockett Academy (4851 14th St) in Detroit. During the camp, children are involved in team sports such as: volleyball, basketball, kickball, baseball and more, arts and crafts, group mentoring, outdoor recreational play and are also served by a mobile dentist. Meals are provided by Good Samaritan Food and is run by up to 25 volunteers! Field trips are also optional and available! This year's theme is "Celebrate and Laugh," the fireworks is a tradition in Metro-Detroit, get a magnificent view of the fireworks at One Woodward on the 19th floor! Enjoy a barbecue style meal, laughs by Comedians Mic Larry and Simply Shanell and enjoy the sounds of singing sensation and recording artist Johnyce! There will be music, dancing and many activities, as well as a VIP charter ride to and from the event! But most of all, you will be a part of helping the Avengers...

Grades 3-5 Is your camper looking for a chance to build their field hockey knowledge and skill set with sweeps, drives, full-field passing, corner plays, defensive and offensive positioning, and field awareness? Whether they are a beginner or field hockey aficionado, join us for a week filled with drills, scrimmages and games. Please bring water, lunch, shin-guards, a mouth-guard, and stick. Coaches: One on One Sports Training staff. Monday - Friday -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wear appropriate clothes: t-shirts, shorts and athletic shoes--no sandals. Please bring shin-guards, a mouth-guard,field hockey stick, water and snack. Beginner sticks are available for use during camp. Students will learn how to create images of themselves while making self-portraits. They will practice close observation with mirrors as well as correct use of proportion, shading, and tone. Projects include realistic self-portraits in which students will attempt to achieve likeness and ab- stract portraits inspired by modern artists. Students will use an arrange of media including mirrors, pencils, charcoal, oil pastels, and paint. Instructor: Ms. Elizabeth Bowers 202-724-8950
Tennis 3 - Brigham Young University
Join BYU mens tennis head coach Brad Pearce for a week of incredible tennis! Learn strategies, tactics and techniques through drills, on-court instruction and singles and doubles play. Players will receive instruction on the fundamentals of all major strokes and will practice these strokes through feeding, live-ball drilling and competitive match-play. Students will hone their skills as they have an opportunity to advance through each of five stations that are set up to practice every aspect of their game. They will also have an opportunity to improve their fitness and participate in competitive off-court games that focus on enhancing their flexibility through stretching, agility and endurance. In addition, they will play competitive matches in both singles and doubles. This is excellent preparation for anyone interested in participating in high school tennis or preparing to compete in USTA leagues and/or tournaments. On Friday of each week, all participants will play in an individual singles tournament against players that are at their level. Trophies are awarded for the winners and runner-ups, but all will play multiple matches. The camp concludes after the tournament on Friday with an awards ceremony. The Martial Arts Center will teach girls in 7th -12th grade some self defense techniques through practical, straight forward instruction that is designed to be fun! Students will learn that fear is not the key to staying safe; instead they will learn skills infused with humor and cautious optimism. Through the correct mixture of attitude and technique, anyone can learn how to keep herself safe. Increasing your ability to protect yourself by at least 10% puts you in an elite category.
