While some of these programs do provide valuable advice, most of them are filled with poor choices that, if followed, will get you injured or killed in a real emergency. Without proper training, separating the fact from fiction can be a difficult task. Our primary focus this week is to teach participants the practical skills that will save them in a true emergency. While a number of Traditional Skills will be introduced, our goal this week is to provide participants with a pragmatic skill set. For instance, spending five hours building a lean-to when it gets dark in 20 minutes is not a practical choice. Trying to build a bow-drill fire kit from scratch without a knife and without properly seasoned wood in the damp environment of the Pacific Northwest is rarely practical. Although those types of skills will be demonstrated, we will challenge you to perfect the basics first – like carrying a small fire steel and a couple of cotton balls...

Awakening is a Catholic retreat put on by young adults for young adults. This overnight retreat runs from Friday night through Sunday afternoon ending with Sunday Mass. The Digital Arts Experiences Minecraft Build-Off Tournament IS BACK! Participants will have 1 hour to build in creative mode by choosing from a list of 3 categories. Previous tournament choices were "Fortress", "Dragon", "Roller Coaster", "Modern House", and "Space Ship". Similarly, we will give new categories to choose from! We encourage you to bring your own computer as we set up a nice space in our main area to compete with other kids, adding to the social aspect of the game. Prizes will be given to winners based on judging. All participants will go home with a small prize regardless of win or lose! Coffee and donuts will be provided by The DAE staff. Campers will learn about the science of robotics with historical information, discoveries, and advances in robot technology. Newtons Laws will be emphasized all week and each camper will receive three robot kits to work on. Campers will be able to take home their remote controlled robots at the end of the week! This year Club SciKidz will be featuring our 3-in-1 All Terrain Robot kit and our 14-1 Solar Space Fleet. In addition to these projects, campers will learn how to solder with our LED Robot Blinker. The skills learned such as wiring, gear building, and soldering will allow campers to go on to more sophisticated robot creation. The 3-in-1 All Terrain Robot is a multi-function tracked mobile robotic kit. Utilize different track modules and make your robot transform into 3 amazing variations: the forklift, rover, and gripper.
