The Perfect Vacation
I have to admit that when we dropped our son off at Camp Kentahten my husband and I were a little bit jealous. We had planned our own mini-vacation to coincide with our son's summer camp stay but we were going to my parents. I would much rather stay at one of those gorgeous lakefront rooms. Their mission is to help kids experience the time of their lives and learn more about the message of Jesus Christ. This takes place through track times, rec, worship, Bible study, church group time, and other fun events. CentriKid Camps are committed to providing content that is rooted in Scripture, a safe location, kid-friendly programming, and staffers who are deeply invested in your kids. July 31-Aug 4. The camp will begin with an introduction of the fundamentals of baseball. Each day will begin with throwing and catching drills. The session will be followed by position training. Each player will learn about each position on the field. Each day there will also be a specialty skill learned. These skills will be base running, sliding, and bunting. Each day ends with games. Paddle and explore Little Narragansett Bay during the best months of the year. Kayak to estuaries, coves, islands, and other places where power boats are not able to go. Snorkel the warm waters of the harbor and the bay, while learning about local ecosystems and the species that inhabit them. Challenge your snorkeling skills by learning to free dive, using NESS fins. No previous kayaking experience is necessary, but an interest in the ocean, snorkeling, and kayaking is a must for this adventure week. Includes: snorkeling, kayaking & free diving 860-535-9362

Biology Explorers is an exciting week of applied science for middle school grade girls. From microorganisms to the biosphere, campers learn about many of the questions, techniques, and equipment scientists use to study the different levels of life. Each morning, campers see demonstrations and perform experiments in the biology labs at Saint Marys School. In the afternoon, campers travel to a variety of local scientific points of interest to watch professional scientists at work. Past field trips have included the Phytotron and Solar House at NCSU, the Sharon Harris Plant, and the Duke Lemur Center. Katie Floyd is an Instructor of Science at Saint Marys School. Ms. Floyd earned her B.A. from Hollins College and her M. S. from Emory University. She taught for ten years at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA where, in addition to teaching 14 different courses, she taught the science component of Spectacles, a residential summer camp for middle school girls. Ms. Floyd has been teaching at Saint Marys for sixteen years and has served as the director of Biology Explorers for over ten years. 9194244028.0

Students will learn about project design, object-oriented programming, console applications, graphics applications and many elements of the Java language. Students will build on what they learn each day. This includes learning how to program frames, colors and programming moving objects. The week begins with simple programming until it builds by the end where students will be able to create the game of pong in Java. No programming experience is necessary but doing common tasks on a computer is useful. Who knows, maybe you have the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs living in your house and you never knew it! Gizmos & Gadgets will give both sides of your childs brain a really fun workout when we take BIG and MESSY and ART, combine it with DESIGN and PROTOTYPE and TEST and add a dash of EXPLODING SCIENCE and then wrap it all up with an awesome BATTLE of the CANDY MACHINES. In this creative and educational camp we will immerse the kids in those projects you would never dare attempt at your house (the messier, the better is our motto!). We will let them think big and expose them to all dimensions of Science, Art and Engineering all in one fun camp. Each day the kids will use the systems engineering process to define, design, prototype and test amazing builds. During the week the kids will build their own candy ( or anything!) dispenser! This is no cardboard dispenser – this is the real deal! Kids will make their dispenser out of wood by creating their own design. They will hammer, saw, drill or however they want to put it together, that really drops out candy (or anything cool like marbles!)
