This program is designed to be an extension of musical learning for students who currently take private violin or cello lessons. During this camp we will learn new songs, discuss playing technique, learn basic music theory, and play music games. We will end the week with a mini-performance, during which campers can showcase what theyve learned. Students who wish to participate must have completed at least one year of private lesson study on their instrument. Early drop off is available at no additional cost from 8:00am-9:00am. Great sports camp for my daughter and son
My daughter and son thrived at this camp. They are both active children who would rather be outdoors than inside. They are also very social, which is why they loved the fact this camp draws campers from all over the world. Youth in Emergency Preparedness Camp - Weslaco, TX
This summer from June 19, 2016 to June 23, 2016, the Rio Grande Valley Medical Reserve Corps and the Weslaco Fire Department are hosting a Youth Preparedness Camp. The camp is for Rio Grande Valley teenagers between the ages of 14-18. There are three man components of the Youth Preparedness Camp. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training – All camp participants (including the adult sponsor) receive the full basic CERT course complete with certification. The basic CERT program is delivered as one component of camp in an effort to educate youth about disaster preparedness and provide them the skills they need to support local first responders in an emergency situation, if needed. This training includes lessons on fire safety, basic first aid, search and rescue, incident command system (ICS), and disaster psychology, among others. In addition to classroom-based lessons, youth are given ample opportunity to practice their skills through hands-on activities, tabletop discussions, and exercises. The CERT training culminates in a large full-scale exercise in which youth allocate resources, attend to live role playing victims, and interact with real first responders. July 6-10 One Session ONLY. Monday – Friday, 1 to 4PM Class limit 20, minimum 8 Students need to bring paper and pens Minimum age: 13 $200 members, $225 non members Will we sing campfire songs? No. Will we write similes about the smell of a campfire, or lengthy descriptions of that one camp counselor who wears knee socks and a fanny pack? Perhaps. Join Kirsten Casey for five days of writing delight: creating poetry, characters, flash fiction pieces, and more. We will write everyday from 1-4 using a variety of prompts, strengthening our attention to detail, sharing our work, and eating candy. Kirsten Casey400Kirsten Casey is a local California Poet in the Schools, who has been teaching creative writing to students in the area for over ten years. She earned her Masters in Creative Writing from San Francisco State, and you can find her work in the anthology Yuba Flows, and her own book of poetry, Ex Vivo: Out of the Living Body. As a teen, Kirsten kept a daily journal, wrote poetry and a play, and enjoyed quoting song lyrics. She loves working with teens because she feels like a teen trapped inside...
