Laurel School and Heights Youth Theatre: FUNdamentals! - Lyman Campus
PLACES EVERYONE! The curtain is rising on a great chance to find your theatre voice. Through a series of FUN master classes that focus on everything from vocal techniques and how to read music, to solo and ensemble work in acting, song, dance, and improvisation, this unique workshop will help you build your own tool kit of theatre essentials, as you create your own work! In addition to an ending showcase, we will be joined by special, guest experts in stagecraft, create our own visuals, and learn audition techniques that will connect everything we will do over the three weeks. Felted Bags and Purses - Artists Exchange
This 4 week workshop will focus on making bags and purses using a resist method of wet felting. For many, felt is a crafting material sold in squares made out of some mish-mosh of synthetic fibers. Felting is actually extremely natural and is one of the most ancient art forms in mankinds history. It is still a widely used method which can create anything from clothing to toys and even houses. In this class, students will learn the basic process of wet felting which creates wool fabric by layering raw wool fibers, adding warm soapy water and a little elbow grease. This is an inter-generational class. The felting process is simple but can be very versatile which makes it a great opportunity for parents and children to work together side by side. In this program your girls will work with a professional female photographer, learning the basics of photography and film making. Drum! Percussion Camp for Absolute Beginners - MacPhail Center for Music - Minneapolis
Experience the fun of laying down a basic rock groove or the joy and energy of a large ensemble of mallet instruments. In this fantastic new camp, students will get a chance to try a variety of percussion instrument while building basic playing skills that will help prepare them to play in their school band or orchestra. Any student can join this camp, even if you have no previous experience playing an instrument. After 5 fun-filled days packed with lots of playing time on a variety of instruments, students will have a chance to show off their new skills for family and friends at a recital at the end of camp. Come enjoy a week of theatrical experiences including: playwriting, costume design, the actors process, and even performance! Students will work collaboratively to create a short play which will be performed at the end of the week. They will use both imagination and research to inform their artistic choices in everything from design work to acting. Additionally, students will explore improvisational theatre in both long and short forms as a means to stimulating the playwriting process and deepening their acting skills. Students with and without theatre backgrounds are invited to come explore, learn, and play! Rachel Wright is a passionate theatre educator who seeks to help her students grow their understanding and compassion for the world, life, and humanity through the magnificent practice of theatre. She has a BS in Theatre Arts Education from Appalachian State University. After college she moved to New York to pursue a career in theatre. She was accepted by Circle in the Square Theatre Conservatory Program where she concentrated on her craft. Upon graduating she began performing in countless off and off-off broadway productions.
