Campers will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and the most important of all - their mind! With a little ingenuity, children will create catapults and forts, construct working light sticks to take home, and assemble a set of circuits with batteries and light bulbs. Develop quick and accurate typing skills in this practical computer program. Daily lessons will include touch-typing techniques, drill sessions to improve accuracy, and tutorials in Microsoft Word & Excel. Tailored activities for beginner or advanced computer-users make this a valuable experience in preparing for the next step in every students career. There will also be some games and competitions to fill out the program. Staff Peter Vitz, a lower school teacher, directs the program. Week 4 Monte Vista Horsemanship Camp - Monte Vista Christian School
Monte Vista Horsemanship Camp provides an amazing opportunity for boys and girls to spend a week riding horses, making friends, and experiencing beautiful natural surroundings at the campus of Monte Vista Christian School. Located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains on the Monterey Bay, we offer structured riding lessons in the morning and afternoon for beginners through advanced riders looking to prepare for competition. Trail rides, mounted games and grooming lessons round out the campers Equestrian education for the week, and they will demonstrate their new skills for friends and family members at our Camp Horse Show on Saturday. Every afternoon, the campers have an opportunity to swim at the school pool and enjoy the hot tub before showering and then its off to dinner! Overnight campers stay in our comfortable cabins and will play games and eat smores around the nightly campfires. Our meals are provided by Epicurean Cafe and the food is fabulous! Opti Race (Session 1 AM) - NESS
Prerequisite: Opti Green Fleet/instructor recommendation Students will work on more advanced boat handling techniques, including roll tacks and jibes, and will be introduced to more racing tactics, strategies and techniques. Sailors will learn what it takes to progress to the next level of Opti racing and will be expected to compete in local Opti regattas where Red, White and Blue fleets are formed by age. Having your own racing level Opti is an advantage at this stage and students are encouraged to bring their own boats. All students will be under the supervision of our race coach in class and at specific local regattas. Last summer we supported and coached our sailors in 7 local day-long Opti regattas and expect to support about the same number of events this year. Regatta fees are not included. 860-535-9362
