Keeping the Music Going
We worked hard to get our son interested in music and didn't want him to give up. That's why the idea of a fiddle camp was such a hoot! Not only did he get to practice his flute throughout the summer but he also picked up a few other instruments. Happy to report he is signing up for band! A summer day camp designed for children ages 5-12. It will run from 9am to 3pm each day. Children will need to bring a bagged lunch each day (sorry no microwave). Male and female swimmers (ages 8-18) of any ability level are welcome. It is highly recommended, but not required, that swimmers have competitive experience prior to attending. Camp space is available on a first come – first serve basis. A $150 non-refundable deposit for each session attended (applicable to the camp fee) and registration form or on-line registration record is required. An information packet is e-mailed with required forms upon completion of registration. Galaxy Robotics is offering a standard class for elementary and middle school students. Over the course of the week, students will design and build their own drivable robot. On the last day of class, a small, friendly competition will be held for students to experience a real tournament environment. The class features the VEX robotics design system, a system that allows for any style of robot to be built. Students will be placed on robot-building teams consisting of 3 to 4 students each, teaching not only technology but also teamwork. Is your child a ham at all your family gatherings? Do you live with a drama queen or king? Has your child been bit by the acting bug? Any boy or girl with an active imagination and sense of play will love this fast-paced, energizing class. Students are encouraged to be as free, expressive, and silly as they can be – the bigger, the better! They learn the basics of acting, improvisation, and character development with fun warm-ups, exercises, games, and simple scenes. No experience necessary; come one and come all. For the Shakespeare buff or novice this is a fun yet educational program as we make history come alive through performance of a Shakespeare classic. This year we are adding a new dimension in that we will take one of his classic tragedy plays and add a humorous twist. While the play will keep with the essence of the original storyline and characters, students will find this play highly entertaining to perform. This truly unique course is especially designed for the home-¬schooled that incorporates history, literature, and performance. History comes alive as students create and act out their interpretation of imaginary and real characters during Shakespeares time. Students will also learn performance skills as they practice techniques for stage acting along with the wonderful experience of performing an adaptation of one of Shakespeares classic plays. Plays under consideration are Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet with a twist. A fully staged performance will be presented for family and friends at the conclusion of this course.
