Teen Summer Garden Camp - Carlisle, PA
Cumberland County, PA – New this summer, a horticulture program designed just for teens! Join the Master Gardeners of Cumberland County for their first-ever Teen Summer Garden Camp on two Mondays, June 20 and June 27, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Held at the Penn State Extension Office in Carlisle and the Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SEAREC) in Manheim, PA, this fun-filled camp offers teens ages 13-15, or in grades 7-9, the ability to explore and discover the “behind-the-scenes” of a garden. The first camp session on June 20 offers teens the opportunity to delve deeper into horticulture topics and engage in hands-on learning about the scientific method, photosynthesis, chromatography, soils, microscope skills, and plant identification. Teens will also build their very own gourd birdhouse. Come prepared for plenty of exploration, observations, activities and discussions! For the second camp session on June 27, teens will travel to the Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SEAREC) in Manheim, PA. Campers will take a wagon tour across the research farm, explore thousands of annual and perennial flowers, visit the Idea Gardens, and create a colorful bandana using vegetable dyes. Coasters Grades 2-3 - Community Cycling Center Bike Shop
From exploring new neighborhoods to spanning distances they didnt know they could ride, Coasters experience the empowerment of a week on two wheels. Riders build confidence in this camp by tackling many different riding situations both within parks and on the road. They also gain experience riding both up and downhill in conjunction with proper shifting techniques for those with geared bikes. Its not all hard work though – Coasters will take breaks from their bicycles by playing games in local parks. Its a packed week of fun! Please note: Coasters camp will ride on streets. To participate, riders must be able to consistently start and stop unassisted and ride in a straight line. Skills they will develop: • Proper execution of emergency and anticipated stops • Avoiding hazards • Shoulder check and scanning for cars • Identifying types of intersections and crossing safely • Controlling speed riding down a hill • Signaling and communicating with other road users • Tube patching 503-288-8864 x321
