This exciting class teaches you how to build and program the new LEGO Mindstorms NXT robot, the coolest robot available. You will use your new skills to meet such challenges as reacting to intruders, moving objects to different locations, stinging an intruder with a robot tail, or beating your opponent at Robot Sumo. Theatre Camp - Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy
This camp will introduce young actors to playmaking, a process of making theatre as an ensemble through creative play. Students will explore acting, storytelling, costumes, props, music and movement to bring a timeless folktale to life on stage. They also learn how to sing, act and dance to a Broadway-style song. Comfortable, free range of motion clothes must be worn, along with jazz, character or sneakers. Jeans will not be permitted. 248-373-5300
Global Scientists - Middle School
Nearly one billion people on our planet lack access to clean water. Thats one billion people who cant drink from a faucet, shower or cook a meal without risk of illness - or worse! In this course, students will collaborate with a Global Partner Student from a developing country to help quench the thirst of the world. Through video message exchanges they will learn about each other and explore how water is used in each others culture, study the chemical properties of water and the water cycle, and then use the engineering design process to build, test and tweak biodomes, water towers, and water filtration systems to better understand how water systems can be polluted and purified. As their understanding of the subject matter grows, students will work closely with their Global Partners to develop a hands-on research project that shows the water problems each of their countries face while sharing practical ways to address these problems and help bring clean water to the world! An apple a day keeps the doctor away? but how do you keep an entire community healthy and safe from terrorist attacks, deadly disease outbreaks, unsafe food and water, rabies, rats and other public health threats? Find out during Camp Public Health at Columbus Public Health. Campers will learn what it takes to protect community health in the 15th largest city in the country through hands-on activities with public health professionals including nurses, sanitarians, epidemiologists and doctors. They?ll also gain insight into active living features such as Art Walks, stream sampling, healthy foods and community gardens, as well as the use of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to promote public health. Flexible drop off time between 7:15-9 am. Flexible pick up time between 4-6 pm. Breakfast and lunch provided. Grades: K - 12th Morning drop off at Lacey Park; afternoon pick up at the Hanford Teen Center. This weeks theme "Super Hero Week" Parents, is your child ready to have fun and make new friends this summer? If yes, then bring your child to the coolest hot spot in town. The Lacey Park Day Camp is full of fun activities for children grades K thru 6th. This is an outdoor recreation camp. Campers will learn about the benefits of being physically active; as well as, having a healthy lifestyle in the outdoors. Each week campers will engage in various group games, art projects, participate in a talent show and weekly field trips to the Hanford Teen Center, Hanford Plunge and the local Library. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided. A weekly food menu will be provided at request. If your child has a particular taste, you may consider bringing a sack lunch for your child.
