The 2nd Annual ATHENA Camp for Teen Girls Athena was the Greek goddess of reason, intelligent activity, arts and literature. She was fierce in battle, but also nurturing and creative. At Athena camp we will use expressive arts to explore what it means to be a girl in today's society. We'll do arts-n-crafts, listen to music, sing, decorate t-shirts, do creative writing, learn stress management strategies, explore and share thoughts about what kind of impact we want to leave in our community, bolster self esteem and reinforce the need to celebrate not compete with each other. Teen Camps- Handbuilding with Clay! - Artworks Texas Studio
This special camp is designed for teens who want to get their hands into clay for 3 hours each day! Teens who have already participated in an Artworks Texas pottery class or workshop are welcome to attend this camp. Students who already have experience with clay will be involved in more advanced projects. Handbuilding is the oldest form of working with clay. Ancient techniques were used to create tools for everyday living, long before the invention of the pottery wheel. Students will explore many aspects of creating with clay off the wheel. Techniques such as coil, pinch pots & slabs will be used in combination to create work during the week. At the end of camp, all projects will be fired & ready for pickup in 2-3 weeks. Please bring to camp: Large box for fired clay pieces (write name on box), old shirt to wear during camp Each day: Drink & snack to enjoy during 15 minute break About our Summer Camp! Campers will experience 3 hours of creative opportunities each day. For children entering 3rd or 4th grade: Each day, students will attend six periods with a fifteen-minute recess and snack after third period. They will attend four intellectually stimulating and fun-filled classes including: Brain Booster, Adventures in Art, Science Shakedown, and Fun and Fitness. For the remaining two periods, children may choose between On Stage, a performing arts class which spans two periods, or a Keyboarding and Wild About Writing option.
