LATEST CAMPS NEWS: Singing for Musical Theatre – Ensemble Performance - The Little Theatre of Alexandria
No class on Feb. 14. This course is designed for singers at any level (grades 2nd - 9th). Students will learn the basics of vocal technique for proper singing, including voice placement and production, breathing, and phrasing. Students will receive guidance in finding their voice type and category. They will also work on presenting songs – learning how to make a song come alive by not just singing it, but interpreting and performing it. This semesters in-class concentration will be on musical theatre chorus/ensemble numbers. Students will work on singing together, and will be taught not just melodies, but also how to sing harmonies and various vocal parts. (An ability to sing harmonies and to sing with others is an essential part of musical theatre performance.) Some of the songs will also include basic movement/staging, and the music and movement that is learned will be presented/ performed in a musical revue format. Students will perform on the LTA stage in the Spring Showcase on April 1st and 2nd! (Students who wish to participate in the Showcase must be available for rehearsals during the early evening hours the week of March 28th.) What is Radiant Camp? Radiant Camp is a camp experience like none other! After attending Radiant Camp, each student walks away with new friendships and having been able to experience God in a deeper and brand new way. With strategically planned adventure activities and powerful chapel services, this will be the best week of the summer for your student. Who can come to Radiant Camp? Kids Camp and Youth Camp take place at the same time and in the same location, but run on separate schedules, so that students experience a camp appropriate to their age group: * Kids Camp is for students entering 3rd-5th grades next fall (younger grades must be at least 8 years old at the start of camp) * Youth Camp is for students entering 6th-9th grades next fall When and where does Radiant Camp happen? Radiant Camp takes place August 11-15, 2015 at Grace Adventures Camp in Silver Lake, Michigan. We Will Be Using A Combo Of ORANGE/GREEN DOT BALLS Depending On The Skill Level Of The Group... The ORANGE BALL allows young players to play on a 60 court with the same rules as those used on a regulation court. Playing the real game will promote the development of fundamentals required in game situations. For 7+ year olds that have gained skills from RED BALL play. The ratio of length to width is basically the same as a full sized court is to an adult. As the court and equipment dimensions are scaled down, young players are able to develop an all-court game style... ORANGE BALL tennis uses low-compression balls that facilitate this tactical development. The balls are easier to control and dont bounce as lively as a YELLOW BALL. On these courts players use 23-25 inch rackets (depending on player size) which gives better racquet and ball control. The modified equipment also assists with development of good mechanics. ORANGE BALL instruction is a series of game based drills, to develop players globally with a strong emphasis on fundamentals.
