Tuesday - Full Year - Four Rock
In October we will resume our homeschool series by following the changing seasons and further developing our our naturalist skills. Together well seek to develop an understanding of the unique ecology of this landscape while also deepening our connection to nature, ourselves and each other. This class is held entirely outdoors in wilderness conditions (no bathrooms or permanent structure for shelter) in all but extreme weather conditions. Well stay warm by keeping active, ducking out of the wind, soaking up the sun, and treating ourselves to snacks by occasional small campfires. Proper clothing--especially layers of wool--is essential, as is an adventurous, curious spirit! 978-463-2233
Bay Bounders (Week 5 PM) - Sound Super Heroes - NESS
Gain animal, plant, and environmental knowledge while having tons of fun in our local outdoor ecosystems around Stonington Harbor. Apply your new knowledge and become a Sound Super Hero as you take part in a student run wildlife fair and decide, formulate, and carry out an activity with your fellow classmates to help benefit the Sound and its wildlife. Use the ancient art of gyotaku to create a fish print on a T-shirt and enjoy the rush of boogie boarding and stand up paddle boarding. All individual skill development and a primary focus on stickhandling, passing and edges. A huge part of the program will be focused on edges and fast feet. For the creative rider who derives their inspiration from the bicycle, this is the camp to let their imagination go wild. From small trinkets to a funky custom bike, the possibilities are endless. Campers comb over unserviceable bikes, salvage parts that inspire them, and breathe new life into them by fashioning their own bike-based crafts. Time tends to be split evenly between rides and crafts. Skills they will develop: • Controlling speed around other riders • Taking left turns into bike lanes • Riding on various surfaces • Shifting gears for efficiency • Map Reading and route planning • Wheel removal and flat repair 503-288-8864 x321
