Summer / Adventure Camp Registration - Solon, OH
The Solon Recreation Department offers two day camps that run in conjunction with one another. The Summer Camp is for pre-kindergarten to fourth graders (child must be at least 5 years old and no older than 12 on their first day of camp). The Adventure Camp is for current fifth & sixth graders (child must be 12 years old or younger on their first day of camp). Camp consists of sports, swimming, activities, field trips and much, much more. The schedules and activities are age appropriately planned. Teen Adventure Camp - Sequoia Highlands
Teen Adventure Camp starts at 9 a.m. on June 27 at Sequoia Highlands, which is a large camp built around 1970. There is a large kitchen and dining room and a big recreation room with pool tables, pingpong and darts as well as other activities. The accommodations are in long dorms with army cot bunks, one dorm for girls, one for boys. The view of the valley is spectacular, and the charm of this camp is that it is rustic, has lots of room and is close to Kings Canyon National Park. We take trips on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to lakes, rivers, caves and mountains up in the parks, hiking & swimming & exploring the area. We will also learn about the ecology of the area and how climate change is affecting the Parks and the central valley. While at camp we will tie-dye our camp shirts, create our own videos, fish if the pond is full, and simply hang out and enjoy each others company. Campfires are planned for the evenings after dinner. Each morning will begin with a short educational reading and activity related to the field trip. Lunch will be eaten on the trip and a thematic afternoon snack will be provided. Each location offers campers the opportunity to play and explore. Campers should pack their own lunch. Field trips include: Cleveland Zoo, Great Lakes Science Center, Natural History Museum and Lake Farm Parks. Trips will be arranged according to weather and lunch should be packed in brown paper sacks or plastic bags to allow for easy disposal while on field trips.
